Classic Tales Reinvented
Modern versions of world famous classic tales
Making the most of collaborative readings and creative interpretations
As part of their reading assessment in EFL classes, my 8th and 9th graders were challenged to collaboratively read some tales from Politically Correct Bedtime Stories by James Finn Garner. Challenge accepted, I selected some students from different classes, sent them the inked texts and after some F2F practice and rehearsal, we proceeded to the recordings.
This is not all, though. As teachers, we are well aware that our students are all different, learn differently and have varied interests and abilities. Accordingly, when asked What does READING inspire you to create?, while some wanted to share their talent with pencil drawings or using apps, others creatively (re)rewrote and updated the tales. A brave student even volunteered to create an animated video. As William Butler Yeats put it "Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire".
These activities have also been carried out as part of our school work for the Erasmus+ K229 Booki Cult project, which aims to improve our students' communication skills in EFL.
What you find below is, therefore, the remarkable work of engaged, dedicated and talented students from Escola Sec/3 Martinho Árias - Soure | PORTUGAL.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
Thank you all.
