2nd Grade Newsletter

April 25

Math

This week in math, students will estimate and measure length using centimeters and meters. They will also be problem solving by comparing lengths.

We will continue to take our math facts tests. The state expectation for second grade is that the students know these facts with automaticity.

Language Arts

This week in Language Arts, students will be comparing and contrasting the animals that we read about in our stories, Animal Need to Eat and Splish, Splash . We will also continue to generate questions before, during, and after reading. Our spelling pattern for the week is words that have vowel teams. The two letters in their words act together as a team to make one vowel sound. If your child has not accessed Spelling City to practice their spelling words, have them do so this week. It is a fun way to practice. The website is spellingcity.com and if you search Jo Rigsby, our words should come up.

In Social Studies, we will continue to discuss that technology is any type of invention that meets people's needs and make their life easier.

Science

This week, the students are completing their plant packages and thinking like package engineers. They will present their designs to the class and explain the functions of their package and how the meet the needs of the plants and consumer.

80-89 B

79-70 C

Anything below 70 is not passing.

As papers start coming home with grades, please discuss them with your child so that they are aware, not only of the school’s expectations, but yours also.
