Spring Forward!
Dear Atholton Families,
I hope everyone was able to recapture the hour lost as we spring forward for daylight savings time. Enjoy the added daylight!
I had the pleasure to spend a large of this past weekend watching our students perform in two distinctly different arenas. Friday afternoon, I attended the Howard County Band Assessment (Adjudication). The talent of both the AHS Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble was truly outstanding. In fact, the Wind Ensemble’s rendition of Beethoven’s Egmont Overture brought the audience to its feet. Congratulations to both bands for their outstanding performance. Thank you to Mr. Posner for his guidance and leadership as band director. See pics below.
On Saturday, I joined our Robotics team at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda for the FIRST Robotics Competition. I had a tour of the “pit” where Team 2537 our Space RAIDers prepared for the two-day competition. As the team troubleshooted through difficulties, their ability to adjust their game plan landed them in the finals. Congratulations to the team and for making me feel so welcome at the competition. A special thank you to Mr. Lidard and all of the parents and volunteers that support our team. See pics below.
Finally, as we re-enter the age of accountability and school report cards, students will now engage in a school climate survey. The purpose of the survey is to gain valuable information about the quality and character of each school’s learning environment so that schools can promote a climate that supports student learning. Students in grades 9 – 11 will take the survey during regular school hours in English classes during the week of March 18. The survey will ask students about topics such as student engagement, interactions with adults and with other students in the school, the school environment, bullying, and safety. The survey will not ask about a student’s personal experiences, and students will not be asked to provide any information that might violate his or her privacy. The survey is confidential and school personnel will not have access to the responses of specific students. The responses your child provides will be combined with the responses from other students in the school, and results will be reported for each school and district. We are eager to receive this very important information about your student’s school and about schools across the state. If you have any questions about this survey, please contact Mrs. Lisa Veslany, Assistant Principal, at (410) 313 – 7065, or email lisa_veslany@hcpss.org.
Have a fantastic week!
Warmly,

Our very own Raider Nation staff will begin rehearsals this week and will be bringing you back to the 80s with their fancy footwork and out of this world costumes. Although I am not a dancer, I will do my best to represent Atholton well. It should definitely be worth the price of admission.

It takes a village to host the post prom party. We are seeking volunteers to contact local businesses to donate to this event. Volunteers report at 10 pm to set up. If anyone can help, please contact ptsa@atholtonptsa.org.
The PTSA also accepts donations from parents of all grades - pay it forward!

Each exam is $94.00, payments can be made by check payable to Atholton High School or you may pay by Credit Card. Students should print their online Naviance Survey and bring it to the Student Services Office along with their check, or online credit card payment receipt. If you have any questions please contact Nina Dix or Yvonne Rogers in Student Services.
Athletic Boosters BULL ROAST
The Bull Roast is the Athletic Boosters biggest fundraiser and it takes a ton of people to organize the event. We are still looking for help with the entertainment, publicity and fundraising committees. If you own a business or provide a service, or know someone that does, and could possibly donate an item for our silent auction, we'd love to talk to you about it. In the past, items have included haircuts, massages, time share rentals, personal training, helicopter rides, balloon rides, aquarium tickets, show tickets, you name it. All of these are tax deductible. Please contact me at (president@atholtonboosters.org) if you have something to donate.
This year's theme is "Denim and Diamonds" and we will be having a professional DJ, casino games, line dancing led by our own Athletic Director and coaches, silent auction, photo booth and many, many more fun activities.
