20 years of Pride at Colleyville Heritage High School

Panthers,
We are racing down the road toward June 1 and it will be here before we know it. This morning was a great experience to see our AVID students celebrate their acceptance into college. Many of whom will be first generation college students. This week also brought great success for our choir program who competed in UIL concert and sight reading competition. All of the choirs that participated brought home superior ratings in all divisions. We are so proud of all the hard work put in by these students, and to see the success translate into such great feedback is a huge accomplishment for our students. This week we were also able to recognize a huge achievement by Gretchen Pfeiffer who was the Region 1 tennis singles CHAMPION!! Gretchen will move on to the state competition next month. It is an exciting time for our baseball and softball teams as they finish out district play and prepare for the playoffs. We are looking forward to great things from these student-athletes. Have a great weekend and GO PANTHERS!!

Student Voice
High School is a staple in a child's developmental years. High school is where they make most of their greatest memories, so it is important that they are at a school where they enjoy being. For me, Colleyville Heritage is one of those schools. There is much to enjoy about this school, but what stands out to me the most is the atmosphere and the amount of different classes that you can take. At Colleyville Heritage there is a great sense of belonging. The students do not see themselves as being better than one another, but as equals and they help each other reach the same high standard. I transferred at the beginning of my junior year and I really felt welcomed. The students treated me as if they had known me for a long time. I came in not knowing a single person, but everyone made the transition easy, especially my teachers and my counselor. With that being said, the staff is amazing. They all seem to really care about the students and their jobs. From my experience, teachers want you to do the best that you can in their class. Although they hold you accountable for doing what you need to do, they are still there to help in any way they possibly can.
As far as classes go, there is a great variety to choose from. They have serious classes that can help prepare you for a career in certain areas, and they have elective classes that you just enjoy being in. The school I transferred from had limited classes so most times you were stuck taking a class that you had completely no interest in. At CHHS, you have so many classes to choose from that you can always pick what interests you. Overall, Colleyville Heritage is a great place to be whether you start here your freshman year or transfer midway through your high school career.

THANK YOUR TEACHERS DURING AP TESTING
Our CHHS teachers work hard all year long, but the two weeks of AP and STAAR testing in early May are especially tough on both kids and teachers, who often get no breaks during the day and miss lunch because of the testing schedule. CHHS PTSA is providing snacks for teachers those two weeks to help them out. (AP Booster Club provides snacks for students while testing). If you’d like to donate snack items for teachers, please sign up at this link. All items should be dropped off at the CHHS Main Office by Monday, May 1 (except for the fresh fruit, which needs to be dropped off on Wednesday, May 3 in the office). Questions? Contact Robyn Schmidt at krkcschmidt@gmail.com.

ACCEPTED Wall
Exciting New Endeavor! CHHS PTSA is collaborating with CHHS AVID to create a space on our campus that will showcase the accomplishments of our CHHS seniors and where they have been accepted to college. It will be called an ACCEPTED Wall. The purpose of the ACCEPTED Wall is to highlight exceptional college campuses all over the United States and beyond, and to start a conversation about how and why to choose a school of higher learning.
Here is how students and parents can help:
1. We would like pennants from colleges that you visit. While you are on a tour, pick up a pennant to donate. They can be dropped at the CHHS office beginning Tuesday, January 17th .
2. When you receive acceptance confirmation and decide on a college, scan your letter and send it Dawn Treese at dawn@treese.org. These will be framed and hung on the ACCEPTED Wall.
