LAKE WORTH HIGH SCHOOL
Weekly Memo 2/6/2017
MISSION
We will lead all students to be productive citizens.
VISION
Lake Worth High School provides a customized learning experience that values individual growth and achievement.
GOALS
1. During the 2016-2017 school year, LWHS will increase the amount of time students are reading and/or writing in all core classes every day and in all elective courses at least once per week by reviewing walk-through data, student assessments, and student artifacts in PLCs.
2. By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, 70% of staff will rate school climate and culture questions as favorable (agree and strongly agree) on the annual staff survey.
3. By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, 20% of students will have participated in non-traditional modes of learning that include blended and virtual coursework by evaluating end-of-year course data.
INFORMATION FOR THE WEEK
- This week you will receive a form to vote on the top 3 from the Teacher of the Year nominees you sent in. These will be sent to the Northwest Tarrant County Chamber.
- Not all committees were able to meet this past week. Please look on the calendar for the coming week if your committee did not meet.
- The Fundraiser committee will primarily work on our first annual 5K run in May. Please consider being on this committee if you are not already on a committee- we really need some help!
- This week we will conduct walk-throughs on Tuesday. Our goal is to give you some positive feedback about what is happening in your classroom. We will still look for lesson objectives and lesson plans. Since one of our primary goals is literacy, we will also look for examples of student reading and writing. It would help greatly if you had some examples to show us when we come through.
- Thursday is a district walk-through day. Please have objectives, lesson plans, and YAGs up to date. Tuesdays walks should help us be prepared.
- I hope your student survey results were helpful. The question now is, What will you do differently now that you have the feedback?
- The Leadership Team will meet on Wednesday this week at our normal time.
- Please remember our discussion concerning tardies and students out of class. Establish a firm expectation in your classroom about students arriving late and leaving class. If they must leave, please ensure they have a pass.
- Thanks to those of you that are contributing to the "Shout Out" board. It is great to hear about your colleagues and what's happening here at LWHS!
- Please continue to look a the calendar each week. I will only include items in this memo that I think are unique, that you need pay special attention to, or are for some reason not on the calendar.
Leadership Meeting Notes and Reminders
I was at an AVID training this week and unable to attend our leadership meeting. I will update the notes next week. What I realized at the training was that we need to decide as a campus whether or not we want to work to become a Demonstration school. We need to be all in and staff it appropriately, or move away from it all together.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK (Like this one so kept it for another week!)
“Despite popular belief to the contrary, there is absolutely no power in intention. The seagull may intend to fly away, may decide to do so, may talk with the other seagulls about how wonderful it is to fly, but until the seagull flaps his wings and takes to the air, he is still on the dock. There’s no difference between that gull and all the others. Likewise, there is no difference in the person who intends to do things differently and the one who never thinks about it in the first place. Have you ever considered how often we judge ourselves by our intentions while we judge others by their actions? Yet intention without action is an insult to those who expect the best from you.”
Andy Andrews, The Noticer
