FFA Servers Breakfast to Hundreds
Ag Day Breakfast:
Saturday March 10, 2018 Scottsburg FFA held their annual Ag Day Breakfast. The breakfast was held at Scottsburg High School in the Commons from 6:30-9:30 in the morning. The breakfast is held yearly to educate those that attend the breakfast how much a farmer would make off of a breakfast like the one that they are served. The turn out this year was nearly 1200 people. During the breakfast, members of the community were invited to tour the new greenhouse, and our upcoming planting plans. Scottsburg FFA thanks the community members that donated items, as well as Farm Bureau for supporting us and sponsoring the event.
Infield Advantage Growers Breakfast:
On the 13th of March, 2018 Scottsburg FFA Officers served and attended the annual Soil and Water Conservation District Infield Advantage Growers Breakfast. The meeting was held at the Train Depot in Scottsburg at 8 am, where the FFA made and transported food. The chapter was able to serve 20 meeting attendees. The SWCD asked the Scottsburg FFA Chapter to cater the event to help conjoin the two organizations. Three Scottsburg FFA members, Kaitlyn Borden, Lauren Hamelman and Kaitlinne Moldero, sit on the SWCD board to keep them up to date on what is happening within the FFA Chapter.Winter Percussion Named Regional Finalist
By being named a Regional Finalist, the Winter Percussion Ensemble returned the next day to compete for a Regional Championship. Despite a better performance on Sunday than Saturday, Scottsburg came up just short of winning, finishing in 2nd place behind Decatur Central High School by 1.3 points. The ensemble will continue their season tomorrow, Saturday, March 17th, at Plainfield High School. Scottsburg will take the floor for performance at 1:27 pm ET.
Congratulations to the students, staff, and directors on being named a WGI Regional Finalist and their 2nd Place finish! Best of luck, tomorrow, at Plainfield HS!
Kiwanis helps with Visions Screenings
There were 164 students who got their vision checked several of which had not been screened in a few years. We are thankful to the Kiwanis and the Lions Club for providing this much needed opportunity to our students.
Winter Guards Continue Success; Varsity are State Finalists
The Scottsburg Winter Guards continued their great seasons over the past few weekends. On Saturday, March 3rd, the Varsity Winter Guard traveled to Mt. Vernon High School in Fortville, IN to compete in the IHSCGA Class A State Preliminaries in an “advance or go home” contest. Last year, the Varsity Winter Guard did not qualify for state finals; it had been a long time since Scottsburg last missed out on state finals.
This year, however, was a different story. Facing over 30 school groups with only 16 finalist slots available, the Varsity Winter Guard posted a good run that was satisfactory enough with the judges to earn a State Finals berth, where they placed 11th! Congratulations to the Varsity Winter Guard on returning to the State Finals event! State Finals will take place at Center Grove High School tomorrow, Saturday, March 17th. Scottsburg will take the floor at 2:25 pm ET.
This past weekend, Saturday, March 10th, all three winter guards (Varsity, JV, Middle School) traveled to Floyd Central to compete in the Tri-State Circuit. The Middle School Guard came away with yet another win in their class (continuing their undefeated season), the JV placed 2nd in their class, and the Varsity had a great run to capture 1st place in their class!
Congratulations to all of our students, staff, and directors on continuing their great seasons! Best of luck to the Varsity Winter Guard on the best performance of the season tomorrow at State Finals!
