Veteran's Day!
We honored Veteran's Day here at LMES with some very special traditions. It all started at 8:30 with a breakfast hosted by our staff, to welcome our family veterans, followed by a flag raising ceremony in the beautiful, crisp fall weather. After that, we came inside for a whole-school assembly in the cafeteria, decorated with our Veteran Stars, that was full of songs and activities to show appreciation for and understanding of the armed forces and the work they have done for our country here and abroad. Finally, many veterans were welcomed into classrooms, to share stories and answer questions. When a veteran was unavailable to come to the school we used Skype to chat with them overseas! It was a wonderful acknowledgment of the hard work and sacrifice that our veterans have made for us and our country, and we hope they know just how appreciated they are!
Kindness Corner
We had an Act of Kindness recently that I want to let everyone know about. At lunch, one of our students was having a tough time. Our very own Leah, a fourth-grader, saw the student in need of help and acted in an empathetic and kind manner. She went over to the student and asked if the student would like to sit with her for lunch. This immediately made the student feel better, and a rough situation was turned around by a simple act of kindness! Here is a picture of Leah with one of her friends during recess. Way to go, Leah!
Storybook Character Pumpkin Contest Winners!
We were overwhelmed with wonderful Pumpkin Storybook Characters this fall in the Library Media Center! The entire school body voted for their favorite one, and here are the top three!
3rd Place = Mike from Monsters, by John (K)
2nd Place = Red from Angry Birds, by Taylor (5th)
1st Place = Pikachu from Pokemon, by Natalie (3rd)
LMES Gave Back During The Month of Socktober!
We set a goal for ourselves this fall to collect 500 donations of socks to donate to St. Vincent De Paul shelter in Waterbury. We exceeded our expectations and collected over 540 pairs of socks! The shelter was very appreciative and those socks will keep many feet warm and clean this winter! Way to show generosity!
