Welcome back!

Please be reminded to update your calendars for semester. We have various events and school activities that we be hold during 2nd semester.

The number of completed surveys is very low. We need your help!Our Georgia Parent survey is open now. We need your support. We have only 58 surveys completed to date. Our goal is 300 up from 200 last year. Please see below for more information.

Congratulations to our student representatives that will represent WCES at the Atlanta Leader In Me Symposium this week! Students Ethan Jones and Skyler Calhoun, will represent Wolf Creek ES as greeters and panel participants to share all about Leader In Me @ Wolf Creek Elementary in front of Georgia Leader In Me school leaders! They will share the 7 Habits and how we are implementing this initiatives at Wolf Creek!

We need your help! 2018 Georgia Parent Survey

Parents, the 2018-17 Georgia Parent Survey is open for this school year. The Georgia Parent Survey contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone or tablet. For parents that do not have access to the Internet, you may use computers at the school. Please visit our Parent Resource Center.

Last year we reached our goal of 200 completed surveys! This was an increase from 2016-17. Let's reach 300+ this year. So far we only have 58 surveys completed. I know we can do it! Thanks in advance for your completion.

Be reminded, that this rating is open to the public and establishes the overall climate rating for our school and our local community. These survey results often "paint the picture" of our residential areas and impact the story for prospective home owners. We want to ensure that we are supporting our school in the most positive way. As shared in our results from last year, we had an awesome 2017-18 school year and want to do even better this year! You helped make us 4 STARS, now lets hit 5 STARS!. If there are specific school concerns, we ask that you contact the school directly and allow the school to address those concerns locally. Copies of the 2017-18 results are available in our Parent Resource Center.

All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey. The data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. Student behavior during independent reading:

Independent reading will be some of the most successful and enjoyable time of the day for some students. This is also a time to foster and grow a love for reading.

However, independent reading can be a difficult time to manage. To avoid inconsistencies and wasted time and instead truly engage readers, ensure that your child has a best fit book that they can read with high accuracy. Try to reiterate independent reading expectations with consistency, and set protected independent reading time aside each day for your child.

If you find that your child is are not engaged in their independent reading time, go back and review your expectations. Perhaps you start out with a goal of 5 minutes of everyone in the house reading. Maybe the next day, you'll try 7 minutes of engaged reading. Track your child’s daily by giving a star or sticker on a chart you have made together.

Choosing a Just Right book

Want to help your children find books that are not "too hard" and not "too easy" but instead are "just right"? Here's some advice.

Five finger rule

1. Choose a book that you think you will enjoy.

2. Read the second page.

3. Hold up a finger for each word you are not sure of, or do not know.

4. If there are five or more words you did not know, you should choose an easier book.

Still think it may not be too difficult? Use the five finger rule on two more pages.

Choose a book that is a good fit for you!

Read two or three pages and ask yourself these questions:

Will it be an easy, fun book to read?

* Do I understand what I am reading?

* Do I know almost every word?

* When I read it aloud, can I read it smoothly?

* Do I think the topic will interest me?

If most of your answers were "yes", this will be an easy book to read independently by yourself.

Will this book be too hard for me?

* Are there five or more words on a page that I don't know, or am unsure of?

* Is this book confusing and hard to understand by myself?

* When I read it aloud, does it sound choppy and slow?

If most of your answers were "yes," this book is too hard. You should wait awhile before you read this book. Give the book another try later, or ask an adult to read the book to you.

Tips on reading with your child

When they can't read the word, say…

* Can you sound it out?

* Fingertap it.

* Can you think of the word or movement that helps you remember that vowel sound?

* What is the first and last sound? What word would make sense?

* Does it have a pattern that you have seen in other words? (ex-an, ack)

* How does the word begin?

* You said_______. Does that make sense?

* What word would make sense that would start with these sounds?

* Put your finger under the word as you say it.

When they want to read a book that is too hard, say…

* Let's read it together.

* This is a book you will enjoy more if you save it until you are older — or later in the year.

* [Be honest!] When people read books that are too hard for them, they often skip important parts. You will have more fun with this book if you wait until you can read it easily.

Reading is FUN!

Six Flags Reading Challenge is happening now. Encourage your child to read each night. Help them to record their minutes on the reading log. Students have to earn 360 minutes to earn a FREE Six Flags ticket for Summer 2019. All forms should be completed and submitted to your child's teacher by March 1, 2018.

Seek First to Understand Before Being Understood #5

Habit 5 will teach students to:

1. Demonstrate attentive listening skills to build and maintain healthy relationships.

2. Cultivate good social and communication skills.

3. Show compassion toward others, share, and put others first.

4. Appreciate different relationships

5. Learn to relate to people who are alike as well as different and work effectively in a group setting

Please join us for our first semester honors programs as we celebrate the accomplishments of our students. We will honor students for academic achievement, exceptional character, attendance and more! ​ Invitations to honorees will be sent to individual parents.

Honoree Criteria:

Principal’s Honor Roll - students who have earned all S’s (K-1) or A’s (2-5) in every subject for First Semester

Honor Roll - students earning a combination of S’ and one N in grades K- and 1st or A’s and B’s in grades 2nd – 5th on his/her report card for first semester

Perfect Attendance– students who have zero absences for the first Semester

Outstanding Citizenship - students who have demonstrated excellent work habits and a good attitude toward school and their classmates (PACK Principles exhibited/model for others, one student for P, one student for A, one student for C and one student for K will be recognized per class)

Most Improved - students who have made considerable gains in the area of academics

and/or behavior

College and Career Readiness! College SPIRIT Days! – One Tuesday a month, teachers and students will be able to sport their college gear to get the students PUMPED UP about going to college. Let's celebrate these days as an opportunity to educate our students about the college or university experiences.

A revision to this year’s school calendar was made. Here is a link to the Board item.

  • Change Friday, March 8, 2019 to a regular school day. This is currently a Teacher Work Day. This will be a regular school day for students. This revision will not change the total number of instruction days for students.

Staff members will be involved in Professional Development throughout the South Learning Community throughout the school year. Be sure to mark your calendars for future days when students are out of school. We have a few this year.

Wolf Creek ES will be closed on the following days.

Wolf Creek Elementary PTA has a goal to raise $30,000 for Math &Literacy Initiatives and to fund teacher grants.

By partnering with Boosterthon, our students will participate in a two-week, fitness-based fundraiser where they’ll learn essential character traits through this year’s theme: MINDSPARK MYSTERYLAB, preview the theme video athttps://vimeo.com/250955350/5e6cb39580

Last year, our school profited $31,000 to fund the Leader In Me Program and purchase new gym equipment. Help us reach our goal this year by connecting with sponsors (family, friends,businesses) to raise funds!

Safety First!

Thanks for working with us to ensure safety for the students.

We still need your patience and support as we execute the morning drop off process. The cafeteria doors close at 7:35 AM each morning. Breakfast ends at that time. Students are tardy at 7:41 AM. Parents are asked to sign their children in and get a tardy pass prior to reporting to class. Parents who wish to walk their child to class must also sign in at the front desk.

Please help us by using the car rider loop in the front of the building for all student drop-offs in the mornings. The car rider loop moves fast but it does require some wait time and patience. This is the safest area for student drop offs. We have assigned staff to support students as they get out of cars. The bus ramp in the back is reserved for buses only. If parents are using the parking lot near the bus ramp area for parking, they are asked to park their vehicles and escort their child into the building. Students should not be dropped off and allowed to run across the bus ramp to enter the building. We want students to be safe. We had a few cars moving fairly fast in this area. This is a safety concern. Remember, the doors open at 7:10 AM for student arrival. Thanks in advance for your support. If we have parents that can volunteer in the bus ramp area, please let us know. We could use the extra hands and eyes to ensure safety for the students.

Identification Required: Please remember to bring your identification in with you when you visit the school. Parents that wish to move pass the front lobby/atrium area will need to sign in and receive a visitor's badge. Any persons checking out a student must also have an ID and be listed on the child's records for check out. Beginning August 13th, parents will be asked to return to the front office to sign in if they do not have a visible visitor's badge. All parents must have their liscenses scanned for the 2018-19 School year by the front office staff before being able to use the kiosk for signing in.

Volunteer Registration: To begin the volunteer process, please visit www.fultonschools.org and complete the child abuse reporting training and the online registration process. When registering, one must use their legal name as it appears on your government identification. The process is self-paced. On your first visit to the school, your government identification will be required.


Be reminded to complete the volunteer registration in advance if you are planning to attend field trips with your child's class as a chaperone.

Our School Day Start/End Times

Thanks in advance for your support in ensuring that our students get to school each day on time and ready for instruction. Breakfast begins at 7:10 a.m. and ends at 7:35 a.m. daily so that we can ensure that students are in class on time to begin their instructional day. School instructional hours are from 7:40 a.m. —2:20 p.m. each day. Parents are asked to escort their children inside and sign them in if they are tardy. Help us protect the instructional day. Please limit early dismissal/check-outs. If needed, please do so before 2:00 PM. Remember keep your child’s pick up and emergency contacts updated and to sign in during each visit. ID is required for anyone visiting or checking your child our of school.
