Bus Routes

Bus Issues

The district is continuing to struggle with the busing issue and we are well aware of the impact it is having on your students and their education. The first priority is getting students to and from school, with the shuttles between schools and to the university campus for North Star College a secondary priority. Unfortunately, this has had a significant impact on students transitioning between buildings during the school day, to which there is no easy solution. Please be sure to see the below picture showing which regular before and after school bus routes will be impacted the upcoming week. They are trying to keep the school day shuttles, going between the high school for part-time students, running but it would be wise to have an alternative plan.

The buses from Hutch to the middle schools after school will be running, BUT it will not be the regular bus number. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHICH HOME TO SCHOOL REGULAR ROUTES ARE NOT RUNNING AND WE'LL HELP GET YOUR STUDENT ON THE CORRECT BUS FROM HUTCH TO THE MIDDLE SCHOOL.

What If I received a notification of a positive case in the school?

This week many families received a notification that a student in one of their child's classrooms tested positive for Covid-19. This notification will go out to the families of all students in the same classroom of the positive student(s), but it does NOT mean your student is considered a close contact. Our administrative office and nurse are personally contacting all families of students who are considered close contact and working through the next steps with them before we send out the basic notification. If your student is considered a close contact to a positive case we will contact you personally and work through the process following Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Guidelines.

Student Spotlight- Koen Kohrt

Congratulations Koen Kohrt as this week's featured Student Spotlight

This week we are excited to share Koen Kohrt with the school community. Koen is a senior at Hutchison involved with the Arts Audio/Visual Cluster, this year taking Broadcast Journalism and an Independent Research in Arts A/V course. Koen is noted to be one of the most diligent, focused, and thorough seniors who absolutely loves school, and it shows. He is ranked at the top of the senior class and will be graduating in May having earned the University of Alaska Scholars and Alaska Performance Scholarships, along with many other anticipated scholarships to come.

Senior students and staff may remember that Koen was the first student to perform an Edgar Allen Poe reading, "The Raven" at the Hutch Has Talent show in May of 2018. His teacher and Academic Decathlon coach Amy Brown also shared that Koen is not only an avid reader but that he is gifted in the art of writing speeches and storytelling. This special gift is being carried forward in Koen's Speech and Debate Class with Mrs. Peterson as he is preparing his final project for the semester to integrate with his speech for the Academic Decathlon competition. We have no doubt he will earn high marks.

While taking his high school courses, specifically AP Physics 1 and II, Koen has developed a strong passion for Astronomy and loves the math and sciences involved with the subject.

Outside of school Koen enjoys gaming and has a wide network of friends through the gaming industry.

Koen's parents shared that while he had siblings who also graduated from Hutch, Koen made the decision to attend because of his interest in Arts A/V. They also shared their pride in Koen's kindhearted and caring nature. "He likes to go the extra mile for people, is very thoughtful and helpful around the house. He loves school and was excited to come back."

Congratulations Koen Kohrt!

Hutchison's Freshmen Class is in Level 3 Modified Operations Status

This past week the Hutchison 9th grade class, as a whole, and their teachers were placed into the Level 3: Modified Operations status due to the number of confirmed positive cases and close contacts associated with those cases. Level 3 mitigation will continue through Friday, September 10th.

Decision to Move to Modified Operations

When there is known significant transmission identified within a class, team, group or school community, and in order to maintain in-person school, modified operations may be implemented by district administration. This step will be done with close consultation with the district’s medical advisory team. Modified operations may include heightened protection protocol for a single class, a team, a group, a set of classrooms or a school community, and may last for several days or several weeks until the increased risk has been mitigated.

Families will be notified and may choose to have their students follow modified operations or may decide to keep them home during this time period. This operational level includes masking and surveillance testing when necessary.

The following will apply if an individual is not a close contact and does not have symptoms. If they are a close contact or have symptoms they will need to quarantine or isolate outside of school.

Modified Operations could involve all or some of the following mitigation and screening measures:

  1. All students and staff wear masks until the exposure and transmission risk have been mitigated
  2. Regular surveillance testing of identified students and staff (see Heightened Protection Protocol)
  3. Building access during the school day may be limited. All visitors would be expected to adhere to the school's current protocols
  4. Limit large group gatherings
  5. Increase high touch surface cleaning
  6. Minimize student movement as much as possible in the building
  7. Sharing of classroom supplies should be limited
  8. PE Instruction occurs outdoors as much as weather permits

Are you missing school? Not sure about your school work?

We have several students out for various reasons but want to support you in maintaining with your coursework. Students should be checking their google classrooms, and if there are any questions please don't hesitate to reach out to the teacher. As you do we ask that you be patient. Our teachers are teaching from 7:30-2:00 daily so they may not respond to your email immediately, but they will.

The teaching staff devised this document as a supportive addition spot to assist in your absence. Some teachers have loaded specific information for their classes others reference you to their google classroom site.
