NHS Tutoring
National Honors Society students are available to help all students with any subject in the Career Center. They are available Mondays and Wednesdays after school, from 2:00-3:00, as well as during seminar. No need to sign up, just stop by the Career Center, located next to the Counseling Center, to utilize this great resource!
Math Center
The Math Center is now open for students needing extra math support. It will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in B112 and B114. Students are free to drop in with their math questions, no need to sign up!
Writing Center
The Writing Center is available during all lunches on Mondays and Thursdays in the Media Center Conference Room. Students will need make an appointment by signing up outside the Writing Center door to utilize this great resource!
OSTC
Oakland Schools Technical Campus
Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast (OSTC-NE) has an excellent cosmetology program for Oakland County high school juniors and seniors. Students who are interested get the chance to begin working toward a career in cosmetology while still in high school! To learn more about the program please attend the Cosmetology Information Night on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m at 1371 North Perry Street, Pontiac, MI 48340. Those interested in this event please RSVP by Friday, November 13, 2015 either by phone 248.451.2710 or via email Randy.Maddock@oakland.k12.mi.us. College Visits
College visits are available to all students at Lakeland. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the various colleges and universities in Michigan. If your student would like to sign up for any of the following college visits please have him/her see Mrs. Roberto in the Counseling Office. Students attending these visits will need permission from their teacher and will have to make up any missed work.

Sophomore Leadership Seminar Opportunities
Each year, Lakeland sends one sophomore student to each the HOBY Leadership and MYLead Seminars. Click here to apply for either of these leadership opportunities.
Applications for the opportunities are due by November 13, 2015.
HOBY Leadership
The Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar (HOBY) is designed for high school sophomores to recognize their leadership talents and apply them in becoming effective, ethical leaders in their home, schools, workplace and community. The high level of energy, encouragement and motivation as well as the interaction with peers, panelists and volunteers are important elements in nurturing the students’ future leadership roles.

Michigan Youth Leadership Conference
Michigan Youth Leadership hosts an annual MYLead Conference for high school sophomores. The goal is to motivate and enable the youth of Michigan to continuously impact their communities through leadership and service. Conference participants experience the opportunity of a lifetime, make many friends, and learn about themselves and their leadership abilities in a weekend full of fun!

Scholarships of the Week
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program
Qualifications: 2.8 GPA, full-time HS senior; plan to attend college, university, vocational or technical school in the US, demonstrated leadership abilities, commitment to community service.
This is a 'nominated' scholarship. Please complete application, found here, if you would like to be considered.

Horatio Alger Scholarship
Qualifications: 2.0 GPA, demonstrate critical financial need and be involved in co-curricular and community service activities.

United States Senate Youth Program
104 students will be selected nationwide for a week-long government and leadership education program in the nation's capital and a one-time $5,000 college scholarship.
Students must be currently serving in an elected or appointed leadership position for the entire 2015-2016 academic year at their high school or in their regional area.
ALL paperwork is due to Mr. Dougherty by October 30, 2015. See Mrs. Roberto in Counseling ASAP to obtain necessary paperwork. There is quite a lot so don't wait if you are interested in this opportunity.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program
This scholarship recognizes students who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. Students of all grades are encouraged to apply online through either Prudential or NASSP and then submit to Mr.Dougherty. Parents will need to complete the application form's signature page as well. Applications will be reviewed and only two students will be selected for this opportunity.
