Annotated 2013 3-8 Mathematics State Test Questions In Spring 2013, New York State administered the first ELA/Literacy and Mathematics Common Core tests intended to provide students, families, educators, and the public better measures of student proficiency in the knowledge and skills students need to succeed in college and careers. On this page you will find links to access a representative sample of questions from every grade (3-8) used on the 2013 state test with annotations to display the kinds of thinking students are required to do in the new Common Core Tests. These documents will be helpful for better understanding the requirements and expectations of the Common Core state tests.
This resource was created as an initiative of the Institute for Mathematics & Education funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, with key members from the CCSSM writing group including Bill McCallum, Phil Daro, and Jason Zimba. It includes sample tasks and items by standard, as well as sample lesson plans to accompany standards. It provides guidance to states, assessment consortia, testing companies, and curriculum developers by illustrating the range and types of mathematical work that students experience in faithful implementation of the CCSS.
The lessons on Khan Academy are designed around 5-10 minute instructional videos that reinforce, review, and enrich core competencies in mathematics and science from basics to college level. The site is a great resource for at-home practice, clarification, reinforcement beyond the classroom, or a flipped classroom lesson. They have also launched thousands of practice problems that address the CCSS.

Study Island has begun embedding PARCC-style questions into the program, although you will not see them separated in any way at this point. As students move through questions, some of them require the kind of technology manipulation that we saw in the examples from PARCC. At the end of November, a significant upload will take place to change over about 1/3 of the questions to this format. Another 1/3 will come later in the year and the final 1/3 in the summer.
