Band By-Laws Changes - PLEASE VOTE
Please Vote on Proposed By-Laws Amendments
The Booster Board is asking for your approval of Amendments to the "Parkway South High School Band Booster By-Laws." The by-laws were last updated in April of 2007, and after a thorough review over the past year; have revised the By-Laws to reflect both the evolution of the band, updated technology, and to more closely reflect the way the boosters operate in 2018.
Copies of both the Amended Bylaws and the 2007 By-Laws are available for your review by clicking on this link. A summary of the changes are provided below.
Summary of Proposed Amendments to the By-Laws
By-Laws
- Added "Vice-President - Technology" officer role - In an era before smartphones (iPhone was released in June 2007!) and gmail (in beta testing until 2009), most of the band's business was done with paper files and notebooks. Now the band distributes SpiritNotes by email, provides updates with Twitter and Facebook, tracks finances with an on line Quickbooks account, hosts a website, has consolidated committee information to shared Google files - and a role is needed to support these platforms and keep track of passwords. The new role is intended to keep the boosters current with changing technology.
- Adjusted "term limits" for booster officers and committee chairs - The previous by-laws allowed a booster to serve in any role for two years. While this makes sense on its face for security purposes; in reality the boosters never functioned this way. Once a booster took on an officer or chairperson role, they stayed in it until their youngest marcher graduated. Also, term limits require a much greater quantity of volunteers, which is difficult to support with a relatively small band. This change is made to reflect the actual operation of the boosters.
- Adjusted the "Vice-President" Role description to reflect the responsibilities of the role. Trucks and transportation have evolved to this role over the past 10 years.
- Changed document to include all gender-neutral language.
- Re-sorted the list of Standing Committees to be consistent with list of Standing Rules. This change only re-organizes the document.
Standing Rules and Committee Responsibilities
- Added both VP roles to Finance Committee. This is important to increase oversight of the finance committee.
- Updated Uniform Committee and Communications Committee to reflect current actual activities.
- Dissolved Support Committee and updated On-Campus - This change was made for two reasons. The VPs have been responsible for trucks, and the director requires the marchers to provide their own water. On-Campus absorbed the remaining Support activities.
The Amendments proposed reflect how the Boosters operate in 2018, and will in the future. The Board respectfully requests approval as presented.
