Counselor Connections
from Mrs. Hoover and Ms. Wilkenson
Guidance Classes
We are well into our Too Good for Violence curriculum rotation and really enjoying how the kids are responding. The lessons are made to be 45-60 min long so we are working hard to get in everything we can in our 30 minutes. Thank you for reinforcing in your classrooms what we have been teaching in guidance! We really do feel it makes a difference!

Jobs for Life
Please don't forget that Crosswinds UMC, Harvest Campus is hosting a program designed to help those who are unemployed or under-employed starting September 1st - October 29th. These sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Information and applications are available in my office if you know of a parent or someone who is looking for employment. For more information go to www.crosswindschurch.net/jfl.
Fam Jam
Fam Jam is coming up! We have been working hard on getting some of our community resources here to talk to parents and share some of what is available to them. We are planning for:
* Caring House (they provide grief support for children)
* HEALS
* Big Brothers/Big Sisters of N. AL
* HAP (Huntsville Assistance Program).
Lunches of Love
Kudos to you for helping us get our Lunches of Love out by 8:30 a.m! We really appreciate your help with this! One teacher shared that she sets a repeat alarm reminder on her phone. Whatever works! Thank you!
Caring House
If you are aware of any student who has lost a parent or step-parent over the last year or two, please submit to one of us the student's name. We are trying to get Caring House to come to our school and provide some grief counseling groups for these students. The Caring House places a specific focus on three pillars:
1. Understanding a death occurred
2. Recognize that grief is a natural reaction to a death and how to deal with emotions that grief brings
3. Start living a healthy lifestyle while coping with grief
Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Alabama
We are super excited to be meeting with the program director from BBBSNA this coming week! It is our goal to have some of our most challenging children matched with a mentor! The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever.
Angel Tree Flyer
We have several Angel Tree Flyers available. Please feel free to give these to any of your children you feel would benefit. Application/registration dates are October 5-9. The address and requirements are on the flyer.
