The 2022-23 School Year Is Almost Here!

One way to start off the year right is for your child to be here on the first day of school. Families, please plan your summer vacations and visits before school starts on August 3.
- August 3, 2022: First day of in-person classes for grades K, 1, 6, 9 and small group classes
- August 4, 2022: All students report for in-person classes
The CGHS 2022-23 The Plan...The Promise is now available!
The CGHS 2022-23 The Plan...The Promise is now available for viewing! Click here to view the document in English and Spanish.
Our school's Family and Community Engagement Plan and our School-Family Compact have been merged together to create one streamlined document. To truly be family-friendly, we have changed the word "compact" to the word "promise". Thus, “The Plan…The Promise…”
The Plan: The purpose of the Family and Community Engagement Plan is to establish our school’s expectations for parental/family engagement; describe how the school will implement a number of specific family engagement activities designed to increase student academic achievement.
The Promise: The purpose of the School-Family Promise (Compact) is to serve as an agreement that parents, students, and teachers develop together, explaining how they will partner to ensure that our students meet state academic standards.

School Meals for 2022-23
Over the last two years, the Gwinnett County School System has been able to provide free, nutritious meals to students due to the USDA waivers associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. These federal waivers enabled GCPS to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students in schools.
These waivers expired on June 30, 2022. As of this date, the GCPS School Nutrition Program will resume its meal program prior to COVID-19.
Families are encouraged to complete the GCPS School Nutrition Program Free/Reduced Meals Application to determine eligibility for the 2022-2023 school year. The online form will be available after July 15 at www.schoollunchapp.com.
Central Gwinnett families should plan on the following for the 2022-23 school year:
- Breakfast will still be served at no cost to all students.
- School lunch meals should be paid for in advance or at the time of purchase, unless the student has applied for and has been approved for free meals. (Reduced price meals are $.40.)
2022-2023 Meal Prices
Breakfast: Free for all students
Student Lunch- Full Price: $2.50

- Work is due by August 12th to your English Language Arts teacher.

Of course, students can read more than just one book. Encourage your child to read for fun! Magazines, graphic novels, e-books are all fair game. Remember, you can set the example by reading with them.

What Teens Should Do During the Summer
What life lessons were learned this year? What went well? What needs to be improved upon? Talk with your teen about this throughout the summer. Set goals for next year at the end of summer or at the beginning of the next school year.
2. Read.
Encourage your teen to read this summer. CGHS students have required summer reading. But also encourage your teen to read for fun. You can even participate in the Gwinnett County Public Library 2022 Summer Reading Challenge as a family.
3. Relax.
This is has been a challenging year for many reasons. Relaxation can improve mental health. Be sure that your teen has an opportunity to relax and recharge this summer.
4. Get them excited about the year ahead.
What goals do they have for the next school year? What fun things will be part of the next year? Will they be a senior? If so, what plans do they have for life after high school?
