Model UN Conference
I would like to appraise of the very successful Model UN Conference that we had this past week end. With seven high school students and one middle school students competing, we had a sizeable team present. Our delegates served on four different committees, ranging from the Security Council to the World Health Organization, UN Women to UN Development program, and made significant progress in all of them. Out of our 8 OSS students that competed, 7 of them were able to get resolutions passed! This was very exciting, as it demonstrates the leadership and negotiating skills of our students. We also left the conference with two awards out of the possible 8! Avari Mallonee and Alexis Dorman each too “Most Improved Delegate” for their particular council! We look forward to more conferences in the future, with the next conference taking place in Sarasota on December 1st!
Best regards,
Connor Beltramo

Bright Futures Scholarship
State of Florida has its own scholarship program called Bright Futures and it is managed through OSFA (Office of Student Financial Assistance). When you complete the application, you are also being evaluated for other scholarships through State of Florida. It is a very short application and should not take more than 15 minutes. Most important thing to know is that, you only complete the form and your transcript and SAT/ACT scores will be submitted automatically through OSS and the State of Florida University System. You are not required to satisfy all the application requirements until the end of the school year to apply to this scholarship. On the other hand, being qualified currently does not guarantee that you will receive this scholarship. If your end of year GPA falls under the requirement, then you will not be receiving the scholarship. Here are the current requirements:

We want you for career day! On November 1st OSHS is host a 2018 Career Day. This invitation is extended to any and all professionals, even retirees. These professionals will present a 10 min engaging session with students as the kids rotate through their normal period schedule. These presentations can be a PowerPoint slideshow showcasing a their typical daily life and work environment or even a quick lecture as to why they got into that career and how school helped. After the 10 min presentation, we hope to engage the students with a quick Q and A and even with an interactive community problem that the professional can guide the students in solving. If you have questions feel free to email Mr. Stampas.

The Orlando Science High School on Technology Drive opened its doors to a newly renovated campus in August 2018. One of the great features of the High School campus is the brand new Media Center. It serves as a space where all students can read, research and study. Please consider making a donation directly to the Media Center to help Mrs. Singleton stock the shelves and create a welcoming environment for our students.
ORCAS Core value: celebrate diversity
Here at OSHS character education is an important component of educating the whole student. Our program, ORCAS Core Values, spotlights 5 specific character traits that we focus on as a school. The "C" in ORCAS is CELEBRATE DIVERSITY which focuses on a student's ability to foster awareness and appreciation of other cultures. Students learn through interacting with our teachers, staff and one another to appreciate cultural differences. Parents and families can use this program and language to continue these conversations outside of school as well. OSHS ORCAS are students of character!
