Principal's Weekly Update
RAISE Goal: I know my learning goals
Te reo phrase of the week: katia te kuaha (shut the door)
Kia ora,
On Tuesday we took close to 60 students to the Kaponga Inter-School Soccer Tournament, with multiple teams being entered across most year groups. This was fantastic to see as I’m a big believer in getting students outside and active to support their well being. What topped off the day was to see our teams win the year 3/4 and year 5/6 competitions. Our year 7/8 team also played extremely well and ended up placing second.
On Wednesday we were very fortunate to have Le Moana conduct a workshop with our year 7/8 students and then put on a community concert in the afternoon. This was an amazing experience for our students and we wish Le Moana all the very best for their performance at WOMAD this coming weekend. A massive thanks goes out to Todd Energy for making this happen and for putting on a great BBQ lunch for our students and the wider community.
Whanau Goal Setting Conferences
Next week on the 22nd and 23rd of March we will hold our Whanau Goal Setting Conferences. At these meetings the teachers will discuss future goals for your children and invite you to share the strengths/interests that your child exhibits at home. Please note that we aim to get a 100% turn out for our Whanau Goal Setting Conferences so please take the time to click on the link below and book in to see your child’s teacher:

We place a high value on building strong relationships between our families and the school, as research has shown that the more invested parents/caregivers are in their child’s education, the better they do. If we haven’t received a booking from you, our staff will follow up with a quick phone call or Seesaw message early next week. If next Wednesday or Thursday does not suit, please contact the school office to set up an alternative date and time.
School will finish at 2 pm for all students on both the 22nd and 23rd March. The first school bus run will leave at 2:05 pm on both of these days.
Kia pai to wiki (have a wonderful weekend).

Room 1
This week has been an action packed week with football and WOMAD! Our students have gone above and beyond to work hard and show their RAISE values.
Room 2
We haven't had a lot of time inside the classroom this week but education happens all round us and is taught and expressed in many different ways.
Room 3
It was great to have so many room 3 students complete their Pepeha piece of work wrapped in their korowai ready for display. This week it was also fantastic being able to discuss with them a goal of their choosing and what they might do to help make it successful. It will be good to share many of these goals with you next week and to meet many of you in our whanau goal setting conferences. Please book in a time if you haven't already.
Mr Bird.
Room 4
Room 5
I am so proud of Room 5 and everything they have achieved in the pool this term. It was wonderful having our parents at school on Wednesday to watch our demonstration and see how confident we have all become in the water! Thank you to those parents for taking the time out of their busy schedule to come and watch us!
Room 6
It is great to be back in the class with everybody this week! A very warm belated welcome to Monty who started last week, and to Alyssa who started on Tuesday this week. Our ‘newbies’ are settling in really well.
On Wednesday we had our water confidence demonstration to show our parents what we have been up to in the water and I was so proud of everyone, from the very newest to the ‘old hands’. You have all grown your knowledge and understanding of water and ways to be safe and confident. You demonstrated your growing confidence in. on, and under the water. It is hard to imagine that only a few weeks ago we had some rather nervous children who didn’t think they would venture into the big pool at all! The day continued with a wonderful lunch provided so kindly by Todd Energy and finished with an amazing shared performance between St Patricks Kaponga, Matapu Seniors and Le Moana…fantastic!
