Panda Prints
May 14, 2021
Dear Sherwood Community,
Thank you for another wonderful week at Sherwood! The weather is warming up and students will continue to be outside for PE, recess, music, etc. Please remember to have your child(ren) bring water to school everyday. Also, please consider sending your child with a hat and sunglasses for the sunny days ahead!
Wash your hands.
Wear a mask.
Watch your distance.
Stay safe everyone!
Panda Pride,
Rachel & Kevin
IAR Testing 5/17-5/19
Beginning on Monday, students will begin taking the IAR test in grades 3-5. Each day students will take a math test and a reading test. Please have your students get a good night's rest and eat a healthy breakfast to give them the energy and stamina they will need.
We would also like to encourage parents with students in K-2 to have a conversation at home about how to best support their fellow pandas by being mindful when in the halls, lunchroom, bathrooms, etc. Thank you!!
Griffin's Tale is Back!
Two sets of student authors from Sherwood are featured in this week's first-released video!
Congratulations to Maxine & Renee in 3rd grade and Tate, Liv & Willow in 4th grade!

Sherwood Parent Input Survey 2021-2022
We are approaching the time of the year when we begin to consider our student placement for next school year. As has been the practice in years past, student placement will continue to be a collaborative, individualized process.
Sherwood Safety
Beginning last week and continuing next week, we will participate in school safety drills at Sherwood. We practice all kinds of drills throughout the school year in order to be prepared for an emergency before it arises. We do this in compliance with state guidelines.
As we conduct the drills, we stress the importance of being quiet and listening for teacher directions in the case of an emergency. We will practice listening to the intruder alert system, but will not execute a school wide drill at that time. The focus will be on options in the event there is danger at school and looking to the teacher for directions. Please reach out to Mrs. Filippi or your child's teacher if you have any questions.
Shelter in Place (Severe Weather) Drill: classes will practice sitting in the hallway in small groups.
Police Drill: 5/26/2021
Students will practice the skill of "looking to your teacher for directions" and discuss age-appropriate options if there is danger.
Fire Drills: 5/21/2021 and 5/24/2021
Students will practice exiting the building quickly and safely.
COVID-19 PCR Testing Information
We are excited to welcome students back full-time over the next two weeks! As shared at the Board meeting last night, we are offering weekly COVID-19 PRC testing. We highly encourage all families to opt into this opportunity as the goal is to further reduce, prevent the spread and increase school community safety.
Testing is voluntary and will require consent to participate. If a child were to test positive, the District will consult with the Lake County Health Department and refer to the IDPH Interim Exclusion Guidance.
For information on the screening please refer to the below documents.
- FAQ
- Consent Form
- IMPORTANT: when using a cell phone device Turn OFF the Mobile-Friendly button and click OK (to see the complete text)
- IMPORTANT: When signing type your initials and draw your signature in the text box
If you wish to have your child(ren) participate in the COVID-19 screening, a consent form will need to be completed for each child. The consent will remain open for the remainder of the school year and must be completed by Sunday to participate in the following week.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Holly Colin if you have further questions.
