Note from Mr. Camp

Dear Werner Community,

We are excited to start back with kids next week! Our staff have been working hard to prepare and we know students will be excited to return to see friends and enjoy learning in-person again. Phase 4 Details will be housed on a different page to be updated as we go. Please take some time to review changes in some procedures (COVID-19 Response, Enhanced Contact Tracing and Arrival/Dismissal) as we shift to this next phase. Please have students return laptops and cords, library books, as well as any other items teachers are requesting back on Tuesday.

I hope you all enjoy your weekend and time with your family.

Kindergarten 2021-22 Registration-DUE Today

This note is for our families that anticipate having a student in kindergarten for the upcoming 2021-22 school year. If you know of any new families needing this information, please forward to them. Due to the health protocols in place, we are not able to meet in person for our normal Kindergarten Orientation. We have developed a website with videos and information that give an overview of our program, school, and our team. Please check this out at our Kindergarten Registration Website. Online Kindergarten registration is still open and we need those done by today as soon so that we can work on planning and making decisions for School of Choice. If you have any questions, please call our office at 488-5550. We look forward to offering more opportunities to connect and transition to the upcoming school year later!

Returning Laptops

Werner parents and guardians, as students return to school there will be some changes with technology. Here is what you need to know:

  • students should return school devices and charging cords

  • devices will remain at school

  • if a quarantine situation arises or remote learning begins again, instructions will be given about when to pick up devices for use at home

  • if students have been using a personal device at home there will be a device for them to use at school

  • if you have a mifi at home, please keep that at home

Important Reminders from the School Nurses

As we prepare to transition from back to in person, it is important that you let us know about your child’s health concerns. Your child is unique. Please give us the details that will help us be of assistance to your child at school. If he/she has a health concern, contact your school nurse or health technician. Information you provide will be reviewed by the school nurse and a Health Care Plan may be developed.

Medication at School

All medication given at school, whether doctor prescribed or over the counter, must be accompanied by PSD Authorization to Administer medication form (available on the PSD website under the Parent, tab, Health services), signed by both the parent/guardian and the physician. Medication must be provided and brought to school by a parent, in the original prescription bottle or over the counter container. Pharmacists may provide you with two bottles if you ask them to label one for school use. If medication changes or medication is discontinued during the school year, please have the child’s doctor fax us the new or correct orders.

Authorization for medication administration MUST BE COMPLETED YEARLY and health care plans updated annually.

Phone Numbers

It is important that we have your home and work phone numbers, as well as emergency contact(s) and phone numbers(s). Should your child become ill or hurt while at school, we MUST be able to reach you. If changes occur during the school year, please notify the school office.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions or need addition information, please call.

Planning for 21-22 School Year

It's that time of year that we are working on planning for next year and need your help. If you have moved this year, please make sure you let the office know of your change if you haven't already. For those that have moved out of our attendance area, you will need to apply for School of Choice by noon on January 15 for consideration of first priority. Also, If you know that you won't be at Werner next year, please let our office know (488-5550). This does not pertain to 5th grade students. If you have any questions about enrollment, please check with our School Secretary, Mrs. Whetsell (488-5550).

Werner Cares and Shares-January

Werner Cares and Shares is a special tradition where we come together to make meaningful contributions to our community and

give our children opportunities to experience the satisfaction of helping others. In the past we have hosted an evening full of hands-on projects and activities for families to do together. This year, instead, we will focus on one special group within our community each month and make handmade cards to express our gratitude and support.

The project is simple: We encourage you to use any materials you have at home to make a card. Notebook paper, construction paper, markers, tape, glue, scissors, etc. We will also have a stash of extra supplies in a box near Werner’s front door that you are welcome to use. When you are done, you can bring your card to Werner (bring them to your class table on distribution days or drop in the box by the front door) and we will collect them and deliver them for you to the group of the month.

For the month of JANUARY we will focus on saying THANK YOU to local Law Enforcement. We will deliver our cards to the Fort Collins Police Department. Feel free to make one card or a whole stack!

Please turn your cards in by Friday, January 29th.

Some ideas on what to write:

-Thank you for taking care of people.

-We are grateful for all you do to keep our community safe.

-Thank you for maintaining peace and cooperation in our town.

-We appreciate all your hard work.

-You are the Best!

PSD Superintendent Search

PSD superintendent search online survey, forums: The Board of Education would like to hear input as it searches for the next Poudre School District superintendent. Parents/guardians, students, staff and other members of the PSD community are invited to complete a survey.

· Hazard Young Attea & Associates, a search firm hired by the Board of Education, will compile input gathered from the survey, forums and invite-only focus groups and create a leadership profile report that will be presented at the board’s public Feb. 9 meeting.

The school board will also solicit diverse ideas from numerous stakeholder groups, including parents/guardians and students, through a series of facilitated, invitation-only, online January forums. Event information is posted on the PSD Superintendent Search web page, which is the primary source of information for the hiring search. We encourage everyone to share their voices as part of this important process. Once on the PSD Superintendent Search web page users can translate the content. Click on the word “Translate” along the top, green navigation bar and select your desired language from the list displayed.
