Housekeeping Reminders
- Please send in a family photo if you have not done that yet.
- Please make sure your child is coming with a snack, or purchases it from the cafeteria in the morning. They will not be allowed to go down during the day to go get snack.
- We do not have Wednesday folders yet, so be sure to check the front pocket in your child's binder for graded work.

Math
What's Happening This Week?
Introducing
- Adding Fractions Using Money and Clock Models
Reviewing
- Finding Equivalent Fractions using Factors, Products, and Multiples
- Comparing and Ordering Fractions
- Connections between Fractions and Decimals
Check your student's planners for homework assignments this week. Math homework is assigned Monday through Thursday every week. Binders and planners should come home nightly. I will also be using the planner to communicate behavioral concerns during Math workshop. You may see tally marks if a certain off task behavior is address during independent or whole group learning time.
Science
Earth Systems Unit
- Students will discuss and create a model to demonstrate how geotechnical engineers use samples of the earth in order to decide where to build structures and buildings.
- Review: Fossil Formation , How Landforms are changed by Water, Wind and Water and How Sedimentary Rock is Formed
Language Arts
- We are working on nonfiction text features.
- We will be working on finding the gist of paragraphs to help us create summaries of sections of nonfiction text.
- We will also continue to use text evidence to support our answers.
- We will work on proper versus common nouns and capitalization rules.
- Reading Homework is 120 minutes this week.
- We will also get started with our novel groups.
Social Studies
- We are working on the Northeastern Region of the United States, we will have a test over this region on October 12th.
- We will be learning about the different regions in the 13 colonies.
Word Work
Students will need to know how to spell the spelling words only. They will need to know the meaning and how to use the Flocabulary words.

Each test will have two dictation sentences that the students will write on their papers. They will be graded on the spelling words in the sentences and spelling words from past lists. They will also be graded on proper capitalization and punctuation and possibly whatever skill we are working on for the week.
