Allusion 1
"Thus we have come to know dill as a pocket Merlin. " Harper uses this to help you see how easily dill comes up with plans, like a wizard uses magic.
Allusion 2
"Here's a quarter; She said to Walter . Go and eat downtown today." This shows how cheap things were back then. It helps show the time and economy.
Allusion 3
"When Alabama seceded from the union on January 11, 1861 Winston county seceded from Alabama." This also help show the time period because it shows that they were still dealing with the differences between blacks and whites.

They affect the story by helping you understand a metaphor or a certain time period. They also help the author describe a the way a person does things or how the look.
