Happy Memorial Day!

Hopefully the weather will cooperate so that we can all enjoy the outdoors this Memorial Day weekend. If you do go outdoors, be sure to use mosquito repellent and to check for ticks once you head back indoors.

What's New in PE

To finish the year, we have been playing large group games in all grades. These games are designed to promote teamwork, strategy, and enthusiasm in each class. As always, sportsmanship is a major component in each game. Students are expected to be positive toward their peers and are encouraged to support and encourage each other. A few of the games we have been playing are Capture the Flag (a student favorite) and Mat Ball.

The fifth grade students are participating in the two puberty lessons this week and next. Mrs. Fedor and I are seeing two classes at a time. This first week, we are teaching students about general hygiene and how their needs change during puberty, mood swings and some strategies to cope with them, and overall growth. Next week the second lesson students will learn about growth, development, changes occurring with their bodies, and the function of male and female anatomy. We held a parent information night last Tuesday, May 16 and had a positive turnout. If you have any questions, please contact me at

Warmer Weather

It is that time of year when the warmer weather finally arrives after the long, cold winter. Please help your child to be prepared for PE by dressing with sneakers and pants or shorts. Dresses, skirts, and sandals can get in the way of full participation.

Throughout the year, students are encouraged to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. We have had a few hot days so far. It is during these days that we tend to slow down in PE and take more frequent water breaks. Many students choose to bring in water bottles each day which is a smart idea. Also, it is a great idea to apply sunblock before coming to school on the hot days. This will protect your children and also help them to develop good habits for skin care.
