Wellness Corner

  • Join us for our upcoming workshops on technology and addiction. This workshop will be facilitated by a clinician from Hoag ASPIRE.
  • Encourage your students to attend the upcoming Lunch & Learns discussing goal setting strategies, understanding social justice, and ways to meditate and relax for finals!
  • Lastly, if your child needs additional support or tutoring, all Beckman students have access to free virtual tutoring by visiting and logging in using their “mytusd” login information.

College and Career Resources

Community College Weekly Virtual Office Hours for BHS Seniors

Santiago Canyon College:

Every Tuesday from 1:30-3:00 pm, Griselda Morones from Santiago Canyon Community College will be available virtually to meet with Beckman students to assist with applying to SCC, exploring SCC programs and services, support with general community college exploration/questions and help completing FAFSA/Dream Act applications.

Irvine Valley College:

Every Thursday from 1:30-3:30 pm, Denice Perez & Rick Chan from IVC outreach and matriculation will be available to answer IVC application questions, explore programs, and discuss the matriculation process with Beckman seniors via Zoom:

Interested in taking a Coastline ROP class?

Coastline ROP is now enrolling students for the spring semester 2021. Many options for career focus electives are available, some including working with animals, construction, learning to cook and working in a dental office as a dental assistant.

Students can register for Coastline ROP classes by grade level

  • November 16th for grade 12
  • November 30 for grade 11
  • December 7 for grades 9 & 10

We're Looking for Career Speakers

Starting in January, the counseling department will be hosting a series of virtual career speaker sessions. We’re looking for parents (or community members) who would be willing to share information about their professions or careers, how they got there, what they like or dislike about their jobs and other relevant information about the world of work.
These “Industry Chats” will be held virtually via Zoom once a month on Wednesdays, from 1:00 to 1:45 pm.

We’re looking for parents or (may know someone) with jobs in:

1. Health Sciences & Medical Technology (January)

2. Business, Management & Administration (February)

3. Audio/Video Technology & Communications (March)

4. Law, Public Safety, Corrections & Security (April)

5. Marketing, Sales & Service (April)

Senior Scene

  • Be thankful your senior has almost made it through half of their senior year!

  • Be sure your student applies to colleges by their posted application deadline
    Most colleges' early admissions happen in early November, UCs are November 30th, CSUs are December 4th, and many colleges have deadlines for regular admissions into January.

  • Encourage them to attend college planning events or college fairs
    It’s helpful to attend workshops that give information about what types of colleges might be good for you or guide you in choosing a major. Here is an updated list of upcoming BHS College Visits.

  • Double-check they have recommendation letters secured if required by their colleges.
    The CSUs and UCs don't require any recommendation letters to apply.

  • Begin working on their financial aid forms, including scholarships.
    Check out this Khan Academy video series to help you understand the process. Remember the CA deadline to submit the FAFSA or CADAA is March 2nd!

  • Enjoy Thanksgiving!
    And make sure you don’t get too full on the turkey so you can still enjoy the pumpkin pie!

Senior mytusd Email Notification

We would like to share with you some important information regarding your student's email address.

  • As they are working on college applications and are exploring opportunities available after high school, it is important they are using a personal email address when completing these applications and not the email.
  • Once students graduate high school, the Tustin Unified email address will no longer be available to use. Using a personal email address when applying will allow students to continue to receive communication once graduated.
  • We wish your family all the best during this application season. The Beckman High staff is here to support you throughout this process!

CSU and UC Application Tips



  • The UCs recognized this is an unusual year so they have offered these tips when completing their application:
  1. Apply to multiple UCs. Remember that the fee waiver allows students to apply to up to four UCs for free.
  2. Select “No Selection” when asked for citizenship status if they are undocumented, including those with DACA and AB540 status.
  3. Research majors at the different campuses, as programs vary, and consider selecting an alternate major.
  4. Work from unofficial transcripts when completing the Academic History to ensure accuracy of courses, credits, and grades. If a student has a repeated course, both the original grade and the repeated grade must be included in the application.
  5. Use the Additional Information section in Academic History to explain any key academic changes, including gaps in education or unique changes in grading systems. UC understands that students have experienced changes in course delivery and grading options during the pandemic. Students can use the Additional Comments section to explain these academic changes.
  6. Start working on the Personal Insight Questions (PIQs) early and make sure it’s their own, original work. If students would like to share how they or their family have been impacted directly by the COVID-19 pandemic, UC recommends that they use the “Additional Information” sections on the application rather than the PIQs.
  7. Consider activities and awards from a broad perspective, since a lot has changed in 2020. Work experience, family responsibilities, online activities, and individual activities will help readers get to know the student. Students should focus on their role, time commitment, and responsibility for activities, and should include information about the selection process for all awards and honors. While students can enter up to 20 items, quality is more important than quantity!
  8. Apply for all scholarships for which they meet the criteria. There is no limit to the number of scholarships students may select.

We understand that high school can be tedious. However it is important to stay focused and maintain goals. Work hard to keep up your grades. Grades and class rank are a key factor in college admissions. If you need help, make sure you talk to your teacher and counselor. Take a look at these online resources to help you study and review important concepts.


It is not too early to begin thinking about college planning. From a college admissions point of view, Sophomore year is one of the most important years. Now is the time to explore colleges, majors, as well as take steps to prepare for the SAT. If nothing else, pick up a good book and read!!! Enhancing your reading skills will not only help you on college entrance exams, but also prepare you for success in college.

Freshman Forum

On November 18th, Freshman Counselor, Erin Charles will provide opportunities for freshman students to be exposed to Beckman’s culture, graduation requirements, and counseling/school support resources.
