THE AMERICAN SYSTEM

THE PURPOSE:
The purpose of the American System was to strengthen and unify the nation, and promote economic development to reduce dependence on imports and tie together the different sections of the country. Its main purpose to create a strong and stable government.
NATIONALISM : SECTIONALISM
Sectionalism is the belief that national interests of ones own region above the nation as a whole, where as Nationalism is showing and supporting your love for your whole country.
DANGERS OF SECTIONALISM:
Since the Increase of national unity during the war of 1812, the north and south had grown into two different directions, meaning both sides wanted different things. This caused lots of arguments and problems, such things like each section of the nation wanting to get their own way in government.
KEY COMPONENTS:
Three major components of the American System:
- Tariffs: wanted because they felt it would promote American manufacturing
-The National Bank: to create a stable currency
-"internal Improvements: made to improve the ability of people to trade with the U.S
WHO IS HENRY CLAY???
Henry Clay, born on April 12, 1777 in Hanover county Virginia, was the son of Reverend John and Elizabeth Hudson Clay. One of Clays most highly appreciated accomplishments was his Attorney work with client Aaron Burr. Clay defended him as being guilty, but later Burr was found guilty. Later Clay was elected to the U.S. House Of Representatives, where he would eventually serve as speaker of the house. Clay also had a say on several other accounts like the national bank, independence for Latin American republics, and also th negotiated settlement between slave owning states and the remaining of the country over its western policy. Over the course of Clays life his skills were spread all over Washington DC, and are still talked and taught all over America till this day.
