Nominations for Gifted & Talented Testing

Nominations will open October 1st for the Conroe ISD Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until February, nominations are accepted at this time. Nominations can be made by parents and/or teachers. It is recommended that parents of 2nd grade students wait until CogAT scores have arrived before nominating their child because CogAT scores are part of the GT assessment. If you are interested in nominating your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher at your fall conference. Nominations will be accepted through December 18th. You may request a nomination form from the front office. You can also find the nomination form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage.

From Counselor Stiles- Parents please mark your calendar (Nov. 12 or Nov. 13th) for this insightful and AWESOME resource to better equip you for drug awareness with your children.

Kelso's Choices - Grades K-2

Big picture

This year, we are implementing a powerful new conflict resolution management program entitled, “Kelso’s Choices”.

The lessons feature a frog named “Kelso” (and his friend “Lily”) who walks students through the minor conflict management choices for “small” problems and encourages them to always go to a trusted adult if the come across a “Big” problem.

Kelso shares 9 ways to solve small problems:

1. Go to another game/activity.

2. Talk it over and listen to each other.

3. Walk away from the problem.

4. Ignore the problem behavior.

5. Tell the person to stop the problem behavior.

6. Apologize.

7. Make a deal or compromise.

8. Wait to cool off.

9. Share and take turns.

During guidance lessons, students are not only learning key words and concepts about resolving conflict, but will be identifying and role playing these strategies as well. Teachers are also integrating the common language and strategies in their classrooms throughout the day.

Our campus will be utilizing the Anonymous Alerts app designed to allow students, or anyone, inform our campus administration of any safety concern during the 2019-2020 school year. This app will allow any completely anonymous upstander and an administrator to engage in completely anonymous two-way confidential ongoing communication regarding an issue. The app can be downloaded either at the Google Play store for Android or Apple store for iOS.

Note the important following information to use when utilizing the app:

· Login/Password– conroeisd

For a complete overview of Anonymous Alerts and how it works, please view the following video on YouTube-

Please be aware 1-888-KIDCHAT will still be available. Anonymous Alerts is preferable as the app allows two-way anonymous exchange of tip information.

Lastly, we will reiterate to students constantly the importance and availability to come directly to an administrator with any concerns. Your assistance in reiterating this is much appreciated.
