Weekly Update - Week of May 30, 2023

Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

Good afternoon, Blackhawks, and Happy Memorial Day Weekend! This weekend we honor the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives while serving our country. Without their sacrifice and courage, we would not enjoy the freedoms that we do today. Remember this as we celebrate this long weekend and start of the summer season.

We are truly in the home stretch this week, with only three short weeks left in the school year, 13 school days! I know it is challenging as the weather improves, but be sure to stay on top of your classes. Now is the time to finish strong. While we aren't able to extend the school year, you are perfectly capable and able to finish early. Let that me a motivation to complete your courses with plenty of time to the end of the school year. Remember, those taking final exams may need exams to be unlocked by myself or Mr. Belluomo. Don't wait until the last minute to do this. As always, if you have any questions, contact the office at 248-627-1820 for help.

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend, and Go Blackhawks!

Summer Technology Policy

Please see the following note from Mr. Bezak, head of the technology department here at Brandon School District:

As we approach the end of the academic year, we would like to inform you that the Chromebooks assigned to your students will remain with them over the summer break, as we did last year. We understand that many families rely on these devices for continued learning and to stay connected with their teachers and classmates. Therefore, it is important for students to keep their devices with them during the break.

We acknowledge that some families may have concerns about screen time during the summer months. To address these concerns, we offer a remote lock feature that can disable the Chromebook for the summer break. If you would like to use this feature, please contact us, and we will be happy to assist you.

Please note that if your child is transitioning out of the Brandon School District, we request that you return the issued Chromebook and charger to your respective school's front office.

Thank you for your continued support of our technology program. We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable summer break.

Sincerely,

Thomas Bezak

IT Director, Brandon School District

Xello

Just a reminder that the state of Michigan requires that all students complete work on their Xello account each year. This is a requirement. Earlier in the year, we took time out to help Summit students work on this. If you did not complete your required Xello progress for the 2022/2023 school year by the time you complete spring NWEA testing, you may be asked to complete this once finished testing. If you have any questions regarding Xello, please contact Christine Hogarth at 248-627-1820 or chogarth@brandon.k12.mi.us.

Navigate 360

As part of the state of Michigan and district's initiative to address the social and emotional needs of our students, as described in detail in the letter issued by the school district. If you choose to have your student(s) participate in this same program or with this specific lesson through the weekly, 20-30 minute long interactive lessons, or if you have questions, please contact the office at 248-627-1820.

Reminder of Expectations

As we continue to progress through the year, here is what you can continue to expect:

  • Expect your student to work for roughly 45-60 minutes per day, per course
  • By now, you should have been reached out to by a counselor regarding your course progress. These will happen once a week. It is extremely important that you respond to communication. Please note that the student needs to respond and be in communication, not just the parent(s).
  • Your main point of contact for content specific questions is your course instructor. If you need help doing so, don't hesitate to reach out to us at 248-627-1820.
