Bridgewater Friday Update

Bear Pride: Respect, Responsibility, Be Safe, Do Your Best

October 9, 2020

No School Oct. 15-18

Oct. 15-18 is MEA Break with no school for students and staff.

Milk Message

Our free meal program has been extended through December 31, 2020, as provided by the United States Department of Agriculture. All students enrolled in the school district — regardless of the learning model — can receive free breakfast and lunch every day. It is possible that the program could end before December 31 if the funding is depleted.

Milk is included in the price of a breakfast and lunch meal. Students who take milk only at meals will be charged $0.50 per carton. Extra milks are not allowed at this time. Please know that if your child is bringing lunch from home and ordering milk they will be charged $.50.

Mask Wear & Care

Students and Staff are expected to wear masks every day. They may take them off during recess time, lunch time, and outside during mask breaks. Masks must cover the nose and mouth fitting snug and yet not too tight to hurt the ears. Masks should be washed or changed out daily. We are having to remind a few students to keep their masks up, and overall the students are doing well.

We have had volunteers making masks for students, and this is greatly appreciated! We use these with students from time to time. Masks are readily available now more than in March, so they are easier to find. Let us know if this is a problem for you.

Cell Phones

Students are encouraged to leave cell phones and other electronic devices at home. If they need to have them, they are to be turned off and stored out of sight during school hours. These devices may not be used to talk, take pictures, play games, record or text during school hours, including recess. We are not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen phones or other devices brought from home.

Picture Retake Day

Wednesday, Nov. 11th is Picture Retake Day in case your child was absent and missed Picture Day. I will send out the online link as soon as I receive it.

Change of Plans

It is always best when you establish a consistent routine with your child to follow at the end of each school day. If you have a change in plans, please send a note with your child just in case there is a guest teacher that day. During the day, calls may be made to the Bridgewater Office. It is very challenging when the office is called after 2:30 pm. Please call before 2:30. Please don't email your child's teacher after noon with changes either since they are teaching and may miss your email. If a student does not have a note, they will be sent on their normal route.

Sick Students

Please contact your child's teacher and/or case manager if your child is out of school due to quarantine or otherwise. This will help your child keep up with his/her school work while they are away. If they are too sick to do any work, we surely understand. Please don't send sick students to school.

Attendance Line

Please call the Bridgewater attendance line if your child is going to be absent from school. This number can be accessed 24 hours a day. 507-664-3306 is the number and this is at the top of your Bridgewater magnet that you received at your Family Conference. We will place a phone call to families that we don’t hear from by the morning; this is done for the sake of safety. Thank you for your help!

Roundabout Information

As previously communicated, construction of the new roundabout at the intersection of Highway 246 (Division Street) and Jefferson Parkway will continue beyond the start of school. The current timeline has the project concluding around October 23rd. The roundabout is paved, and they are completing the additional work such as electrical, striping, and signage.

Vehicles are not allowed to use the Bridgewater Elementary parking lot as a shortcut from Jefferson Parkway to Highway 246 (Division Street.) School busses will be permitted to pass through the Bridgewater parking lots to help with the bus route times for students. We thank the Northfield Police Department for their assistance in supporting our traffic management. We have opened the barricades in the afternoon to let parents through to Hwy 246, but there is no entry.

Arrival/Dismissal Information--Parent Drop Off/Pick Up

  • Students may arrive at 8:00 a.m. (9:00 a.m. on Wednesdays) if they are eating breakfast in the morning.
  • Students may arrive no earlier than 8:10 a.m. each day (9:10 a.m. on Wednesdays) otherwise.
  • We will try to unload about ten cars at a time.
  • Please don't arrive before 3:00 p.m. since we have busses coming through.
  • Make sure your car tag is visible hanging from your rearview mirror.
  • We will try to load about eight cars at a time.
  • Yes, in the afternoon you may park at Rock Field and have your child cross with the patrols. Just let your child's teacher know.
