Canaan Middle School Update
November 12, 2021
As I reflect on the last few weeks at Canaan Middle School as the principal, the word that comes to mind is partnerships. We have some unique partnerships established within our local community and beyond and it is helping create enriched learning opportunities for our students. Many of our students participated in an AWS Tech Week, others learned from Madison County Public Health's prevention support staff. Most importantly, we were able to connect with our families through Parent Teacher Conferences. It was great to share information with our students' families and hear insights on how to better support their needs at school. If you would still like to connect with your child’s teacher on how your child is performing, please reach out to our staff. We look forward to growing our partnerships throughout the year with our entire school community!
Health, Safety and Attendance
If students are expressing any COVID-19 symptoms at home, please keep your child at home and communicate this information to Canaan by calling the Canaan office by 7:30am if your student will be late or absent at (614) 733-3975. If leaving a voicemail, you must state a reason for the absence in order for the absence to be excused.
For students that are considered a close contact at school to a confirmed COVID-19 case, and a quarantine is recommended or required according to the Madison County Department of Health guidelines, we will communicate directly with each family. For confirmed cases found at Canaan Middle School and the child was at school during the infectious period, each grade level will receive notification of the confirmed case. You can find more detailed information about our cases on our COVID-19 Dashboard.
5th Grade CoGat Testing
Our 5th Grade students will participate in The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) on November 22. The purpose of this assessment is used for gifted identification. Students will participate in a series of assessments that assess the child's reasoning and problem solving abilities through a battery of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal test items. Canaan Middle School will also have make-up testing available for students that are not at school on November 22.
Lost and Found
Our CMS Lost and Found items continue to grow! Our Lost and Found is located in our cafeteria. In order to help make sure your child takes care of their belongings such as coats, lunch boxes and water bottles, we strongly encourage labeling these items with your child’s name. When we have a student’s name on it, we give the item back to the owner.
Thanksgiving Break November 24-28
