Weekly Recap
Hopefully this message finds you in good spirits. This past week, we had a lot of celebrations. The week started off with us celebrating our Star Student, Darby, and our Star Teacher, Mrs. Sharp, at the CHISD Board Meeting. We also celebrated our Board Trustees since January is School Board Appreciation month. We had our Inaugural All A Honor Roll Parade on Thursday to celebrate scholars who earned all A's for the 2nd Nine Weeks. Scholars who made the All A and A/B Honor Roll received certificates. Be on the lookout for our All A Honor Roll Parade for the 3rd Nine Weeks. Parents will receive an invitation to attend and celebrate with us.
What else happened? 5th graders traveled to CHHS to view various performances by the CHISD Fines Arts Departments. That included the Red Army Band, the orchestra, the choir, the theater department, and the Highsteppers. Scholars were able to learn about all that the district has to offer. We recognized the 90th day of school by dressing in 1990s attire. Our Major Saver fundraiser is taking place, so have fun selling those cards. The week ended with our monthly All Pro Dads breakfast and Club Friday.
With ALL of that taking place, there was still a major focus on instruction, and scholars were engaged. This week, we will continue on with the momentum when we return to school on Tuesday, January 22 (remember that there is no school Monday, January 21 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday). We hope to see ALL parents and scholars Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. for our Academic Olympiad. Dinner will be served, so come on out to engage, learn, and grow with us.
When wondering about key dates, be sure to review The Lake Ridge Bridge and the calendar located on the campus's website. As events are scheduled, dates are updated so that you can have a place to reference.
Read the information located on below in the newsletter to view scenes from the week and learn about campus/district happenings, important reminders, news from APD and PTA, and upcoming events. Always remember that "The Race for Excellence has No Finish Line."

Spring Gifted & Talented Nominations
Gifted and Talented Spring Nominations
Spring nominations for Gifted and Talented (G/T) will begin January 14 - February 8, 2019 for students enrolled in grades 2-5. All students Kindergarten and 1st grade will be screened for GT during the spring semester. If you would like to nominate your child for this program, please contact your child’s teacher to request his/her input. The teacher will be able to tell you if he/she is seeing characteristics of a gifted child and will be able to evaluate your child in relation to others at his/her grade level. It is often difficult to determine how advanced a child is unless he/ she is able to be compared to his/her peers. Students who qualify for G/T in spring 2019, will begin fall 2019.
Nomination Forms, Permission to Test Forms, and the Parent Report Forms are available on the Lake Ridge Elementary website and on the school counselor page. Hard copies of Gifted and Talented packets may also be picked up in the main office.
Please return all completed forms to the counselor no later than February 8, 2019. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Rashonda Johnson at 972-293-4501 or via email at rashonda.johnson@chisd.net.
Sincerely,
Rashonda Johnson, GT Coordinator
