Senior 21st Century Scholars
Indiana's 21st Century Scholars program is designed to provide access to a college education for every student. Income eligible 7th and 8th graders can enroll in the program. Once enrolled if students uphold the requirements of the program, they will be awarded tuition at an in-state public institution. The requirements of the program can be confusing because they change from year to year. For the class of 2016, enrolled scholars must complete the following steps to keep their scholarship.
- Graduate with a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- File the 21st Century Scholar Affirmation by March 10, 2016
- File a FAFSA by March 10, 2016
- Correct/Update the FAFSA (if necessary) by May 15, 2016
- Apply to an eligible Indiana college during their Senior year of high school.
- Enroll as a full-time student
- Maintain Indiana Residency
- Review state financial aid requirements including the new college credit hour requirement.
We will be scheduling student and parent meetings to help with the process so stay tuned! More information can be found at the 21st Century Scholars Website. http://www.in.gov/21stcenturyscholars/2516.htm
Transcript Request Procedures
August, September, and October are all about applying to college! I have enjoyed my first week in the classroom with the Class of 2016. We have been discussing the application process, college admission testing, and the procedure to register for college visits through Naviance. I will be in additional English classes next week.
It is important to remember that students do not apply to college through Naviance. Naviance is used for students to request and for the school to send transcripts, letters of recommendation, academic profiles, and other school reports.
All transcript requests for college applications must be processed through Naviance. To request a transcript students should complete the following three steps.
- Add the college to the list of 'colleges I am applying to' in Naviance.
- Confirm you have applied
- Request the transcript
After the transcript request is made, the transcript will be sent to the college electronically within five school days. The student or parent can log in to Naviance to check the status of the transcript request. This instruction sheet explains the process in greater detail. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwmE0LU9jQ56UWVWb25Hc1JuQkE/view?usp=sharing
Students who are applying to an institution through the Common Application will have to complete the one time process of 'matching' their Common Application to their Naviance account before school documents can be sent. The video below and the following instruction sheet will explain the one -time process. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwmE0LU9jQ56bHZ1QkNEQTdNV2s/view?usp=sharing
I will walk students and families through the request process during the Family Application Seminar Next Tuesday, August 18 from 6:30 - 8:00 in the Auditorium.

Indy Westside College Fair! SAVE THE DATE!
The Indy Westside College Fair will be held on October 1 from 7:00 - 8:30 in the MPA. Last year over 80 colleges, universities, trade schools, and military representatives were in attendance. In addition to visits with the representatives, break out sessions will be offered to help students and families at all grade levels navigate the world of college admissions.
