Fatima & Karyme
How did Mexican music become a big influence in California?
In the 1940s a counterculture was created by young Mexican Americans who were rebelling against Mexican and American cultures, was known as the pachuco culture and was more known because of the zoot suits riots. Around the 1960s Mexican music became more prominent. The amount of hispanic immigrants in California during these times caused a rise in the popularity of Mexican music. Throughout the years new genres in the Mexican music scene came to be like jazz, corridos also known as ballads, chicano rock and East L.A punk.
