Chi-Hi Student Services Department - September 2019
Student Services Staff & Resources
Our Student Services Department has many resources to help prepare you for life beyond high school. Our department consists of two clerical staff, four school counselors, a school psychologist, a social worker and an AODA counselor. Even though our roles are a little different we are all here to help students reach their full potential.
Our Staff
This year we welcome two new staff members to our department; Dr. Ken Abel and Mr. Luke Heidtke. Dr. Abel will be working with students with the last names Fe-La and Mr. Heidtke will be working with students with the last names S-Z. Mr. Ewert and Ms. Holldorf retired at the end of the 2019 school year. We wish them both the best in retirement.

Our Roles
Often times we get questions regarding the differences between school counselors, school social workers and school psychologists. Although we work closely together, our focus of work is slightly different. Listed below is an abbreviated description of our roles to help guide you in who to contact with your concerns.
School Counselors typically work with students to process social/emotional difficulties, manage/plan their coursework, and prepare for the future.
In addition to helping students with social/emotional difficulties, School Social Workers often intervene to help families access services in the community, i.e. mental health counseling, support groups, food programs, etc.
School Psychologists tailor their services to meet the particular needs of each student and each situation. The core services that they provide include consultation, assessment, intervention, prevention, education, research, and health care provisions.
AODA Counselors work with students that are using alcohol or other drugs or have a friend or family member whose use is interfering with their life. Our AODA Counselor meets with student individually and facilitates support groups.
Mental Health Counselors/Therapists
Although mental health therapists are not employed through the school district, we do offer services through Cardinal Care. Cardinal Care offers families up to four counseling sessions with a mental health counselor/therapist at no cost. For more information, please contact Cardinal Care at 855-838-7170. In addition to Cardinal Care, many mental health providers are able to meet with their clients at school. This helps eliminate the barrier of getting to and from appointments. For more information, please call our -Mental Health Navigator at: 715-720-3750, ext. 3028.

Schedule Corrections
Counselors will only be able to make schedule changes that meet the following criteria:
- Schedule shows a class period that does not contain a course (a gap)
- Scheduling error (repeat class or missing prerequisite)
- Missing graduation/college admission requirement
- Concerns about the rigor of the schedule (increase or decrease in rigor)
The deadline for course changes was April 15th, 2019. Therefore, we cannot honor requests to change teachers, move classes to a different hour, or make changes in course selection because our staffing has already been determined for the school year.
Students who need to make a correction to their schedule must stop into student services and fill out a schedule correction form no later than 4:00pm on Friday, September 6th.
How to Schedule an Appointment
Once the school year begins, students can schedule an appointment to see their school counselor and Ms. Wahl (school social worker) through google calendar. A link to their calendars is available on Student Services website: https://cfsd.chipfalls.k12.wi.us/high/services/
