Illuminator
Florida Alpha Delta Kappa Vol 1 October 2022
President's Message
Dear Sisters,
This issue of the Illuminator arrives a bit late due to Hurricane Ian. Many parts of Florida were affected by this massive storm. My house sustained 4-5 inches of flood water throughout the entire house. So, the Illuminator took a back seat to tearing out flooring and drywall, running fans and dehumidifiers, and packing up what was salvageable so that repairs could begin. I know many others have sustained damage to their homes as well. Know that your Gulf sisters and sisters in all regions of Alpha Delta Kappa have been keeping us in their thoughts and prayers.
We have a disaster relief fund. If you are able to donate to the fund, please send donations to Joanne Polk. Make checks payable to Florida Alpha Delta Kappa and put in the memo - disaster relief. For those who have sustained damage the application is attached in PDF and Word formats. Katie Davies, our Disaster Relief Chairman, is ready to receive applications. Her contact information is on the form.
The Hurricane also caused the postponement of our State Leadership Seminar. We are rescheduling for November 5 at 10:00 EDT (9:00 CDT). This will be a Zoom event. There will be no cost to chapters. However, to attend registration is required. The registration form is attached. If you sent in your registration for the Oct. 1 Seminar, the check has not been cashed. Please let Joanne Polk know if you want the check destroyed, sent back to you, or put in the Altruistic Project - FLAPPA Scholarship fund.
I wish you all the best Alpha Delta Kappa Month. Take time to remember our founders.
In Sisterhood,
Liz

Project C.H.E.A.R.
Much progress is being made on Project C.H.E.A.R. The walls are completed and they are looking at roofing. They have decided to order high quality roofing locally. They are also hiring a local carpenter. The local craftsmen and contractors are very excited when selected, as Project CHEAR is changing the lives of so many in the community. It also ensures that the project is hiring the most qualified workers. They are digging the hole for the septic system now, too. By the time December Kappan is out, we should have raised over $45,000. The girls picked greens from the new Centre's garden for dinner and the boys are working on landscaping. They believe it's important to have the children actively involved to promote ownership. Please remember that the Project C.H.E.A.R. campaign runs until July 31, 2023. There is still time to contribute to this worthwhile cause.

Delta Sigma Okaloosa County's Women's Hall of Fame
Dolores Noechel, Delta Sigma, was recently inducted into
Okaloosa County’s Women's Hall of Fame.
Dolores was a math teacher at Ruckel Middle School, where she was the Teacher of the Year twice and a finalist for Okaloosa County’s Teacher of the Year. While teaching, she was a seven time Statewide Winner of the Florida Stock Market Simulation, a First Place Winner in the National Middle School Association Team Teaching Awards, and Florida Stock Market Game’s Distinguished Advisor of the Year.
Dolores became the District Instructional Technology and Media
Services Specialist and later the Assistant Principal at Fort Walton Beach High School.
Besides A∆K, her community involvement includes being a member of the Okaloosa County Public Schools Foundation Board, a member on the Leadership Council for Take Stock in Children and a mentor for of high school students for twelve years. Dolores introduced Delta Sigma to Take Stock in Children and encouraged us to donate to that group. She is on St. Mary’s Council of Catholic Women, and she is the Education Committee Co-Chairman for Impact 100, a Board Member for Center for Lifelong Learning and a Teacher Education Adjunct for Northwest Florida State College.
Scholarship House/ Alpha Sigma
Tallahassee A - R Workshop (crafting business) donated a studio night for the girls at the Scholarship House. Only five could attend! The owner of our local franchise, Melissa Rudd, donated one project for each girl to make. She is pictured holding the A - R sign with the girls. The student holding the purple wood plaque with hearts is Samirah, the head resident. She coordinated the registrations and took the girls to the class. Three Alpha Sigma sisters and Betty Piper were also there to cheer the girls on!
