Pioneer High School Celebrates Black History Month
YouTube Link will be posted February 18th, 2022
February marks the beginning of our "BSU Reads: Read and Represent" program. Our members will record themselves reading books from BIPOC authors and illustrators for children ages 4-10. We will share those videos with a few of the local elementary schools as an effort to inspire reading through representation. With over 20 stories it's a perfect segue from Black History Month to March Is Reading Month. We have also invited our Latinx Student Union Members to participate in our Read & Represent program
Be on the lookout for the Black History Month Posters around Pioneer about Fred Hampton, Marsha P. Johnson, Audre Lorde, Fannie Lou Hammer, Dorothy Height, Claudette Colvin, James Forman and Bayard Rustin, just to name a few, along with a deeper look into the GI Bill and The New Deal and other government policies that helped shape the wealth distribution we see today.

A special shoutout to Rebecca Wang, Dhivya Bala, and Aditi Ganesan who were all named finalists at the competition. Pioneer GIDAS also brought home the title of best GIDAS branch for the second year in a row, and even won the annual talent show with a show-stopping performance of "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Disney's Encanto. You can view the talent show presentation HERE
All GIDAS members are presented with the opportunity to write and publish their own research abstracts, so if you're interested in genetics, medicine, and playing terrible covers of Disney songs as well, come join us at lunch on Wednesdays in C127!
