Food Services Reminder and MySchoolBucks Payments
Dear Framingham Families,
For those that are not aware the School Committee updated the Meal Charge Policy in August 2018. We advise that all parents / guardians read this policy to understand what this means for you. Those without negative balances will not be subject to the collection practices outlined below and we appreciate your continued support.
Framingham Public Schools is committed to providing students with healthy, nutritious meals each day so they can focus on school work. Students will not be denied meals, however, each meal that is served once a student has a negative balance, will continue to add to the negative balance. Parents or Guardians are responsible for any meal charges incurred.
As part of the effort to recover growing negative balances across the District, we will begin to send emails, text messages, and automated phone calls reminding parents to settle their student's account. As a reminder and for your convenience, there are several ways to maintain the MySchoolBucks accounts:
1. Credit Card / Debit Card: Visit the MySchoolBucks website at www.myschoolbucks.com or download the MySchoolBucks App on your smartphone (Apple / Android). When creating your account, you will need your student’s ID.
2. Check: Please make checks payable to Framingham School Food Service.
- You can mail the check directly to Framingham School Food Service Dept. (115 A St., Framingham, MA 01701)
- You can give the check directly to the cafeteria manager at your child’s school
3. Cash: You can bring cash in person to our office (115 A St., Framingham, MA 01701) or directly to the cafeteria manager at your child’s school.
If you need financial assistance or help completing the Free or Reduced Meal Benefit Application, please feel free to contact the Food Service Department at 508-626-9109. All families are encouraged to fill out the Free or Reduced Meal Application. Many are surprised to find out that they qualify, and turning in this application helps every child in our schools because it affects the amount of Federal reimbursements that the District receives.
Additionally, the application process for participation in school meal programs is simple and confidential. None of the personal information provided to Framingham Public Schools Food Services Department is shared with any other State or Federal entities.
Thank you and have a great day.
Sincerely,
Brendan C. Ryan
Food Service Department Administrator
attendance matters
Showing up for school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.
We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. But, we also know that when students miss too much school— regardless of the reason – it can cause them to fall behind academically. Your child is less likely to succeed if he or she is chronically absent. Children chronically absent in kindergarten and 1st grade are much less likely to read at grade level by the end of 3rd grade.
Writing at Home
Brett Berkman, Literacy Coach
There are many opportunities for your children to engage in authentic writing at home. This authentic writing will help your children develop and celebrate their identity as writers! It will also give our younger students important practice with invented spelling.
Here are a few ideas you can try:
Have them help you make a grocery list or a Target list.
Write letters or postcards to friends or family who live far away or even close by. Kids love getting mail -- the old fashioned kind!
Give them a journal to record their thoughts, dreams, or whatever is on their mind!
Fold some paper to make a “little book.” Your children have stories to tell!
Write a note to Mrs. Berkman!! I’d love to hear from your kids!
Happy Writing!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Framingham Public Schools values input from students and families. You are an important partner as we work to strengthen the overall experience in our schools for you and your children.
In order to learn more about student and family experiences in Framingham, we will be partnering with Panorama Education* for the third year to conduct district-wide family (preschool - grades 12) and student surveys for children (grades 3-12). Through the surveys administered last year, the district gained valuable information about the climate and culture of our schools. The results of those surveys help inform both school-based and district-wide initiatives to support the social and emotional health of our community. Reviewing the results year-over-year helps us make informed decisions to prioritize improvement efforts in areas of greatest need.
Last Year’s Results
Excerpts of the 2017-2018 parent/guardian and student survey results can be found on the Framingham Public Schools website. Please feel free to review and contact our Health and Wellness Department with any questions.
Information Session
We will be hosting an Information Session on Tuesday, March 5th from 6:30pm - 8:00pm in the Woodrow Wilson cafetorium to review last year’s results and to explain the impact of your partnership with these surveys. Food, childcare, and translation services will be provided to encourage family engagement around this important topic. You can register on Eventbrite or on Facebook.
2018-2019 Survey
We will be conducting this survey again for students and parents. The surveys are being administered earlier this school year than in years past, as it will allow for real-time progress and improvement opportunities once the survey results are received. Additionally, the survey will be completed prior to the MCAS testing time. The surveys will be the same as those previously administered, which will help the district track our progress over time, and will include the following measures:
Student/Family Engagement: How involved are students/families with their schools?
School Climate: How do you see the overall social and learning climate of the school?
Teacher/Student and Family Relationships: How strong is the social connection between teachers and students within and beyond school?
How can parents/guardians take the survey?
When: The survey will be available from February 25 to March 22, 2019. All surveys will be available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
How: You will receive an email with a link to the survey on February 25, 2019.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete the survey. If you have any questions about the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact the Department of Health and Wellness at 508-626-9197.
Sincerely,
Robert A. Tremblay, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

CARE & SHARE
The Jane Shapiro Care and Share began in 1995 as a Dunning School community service project. Each month a specific food item is collected at the school to help keep A Place to Turn's shelves stocked. What a great sharing and learning project! Donations are gathered up by the students and then with help from staff, they are delivered to A Place to Turn. Learn more about A Place to Turn here.
Thank you for your contributions to A Place to Turn during the year. Our monthly food collection makes a huge difference in our community, while teaching our students the importance of giving.
