Northside Elementary School
January 29-Feb 2, 2024
Hello Northside family!
We conquered our first full week in January last week! Our students are really embracing our Reading Challenge. We had a record number of students who made it to the bronze level! As you can see above, our kindergarten classes rose to the challenge! So proud of our students! Our fourth grade students also experienced an in-house field trip from Coweta STEM institute. They learned all about robotics and coding. A big thank you to our PTO for sponsoring this event.
This week, we will have a visit from Evans Middle School Cougar Ambassadors to our kindergarten classes. The ambassadors are leading some skills block activities and providing small group reading stations. Our students look forward to their arrival each month. Also, our Champ´s Reading Club is in full swing each Tuesday. We appreciate all of our volunteers, especially Grantville librarians, Kimberly Thom and Kristin Timoteo, as well as Janice Sutton and Greer Fernandez who consistently come every week to read to our students. Thank you ladies for your dedication and support. If you would like to participate in Champ´s Reading Club, please email Sally Brass, our counselor, at sally.brass@cowetaschools.net.
Finally, we do have a request from Nurse Linda. We are in need of boxes of tissues and small waters. If you can donate these items, it would be greatly appreciated.
As always, thank you for sending your children to us each day. Our mission is Nurturing, Educating, and Serving. We look forward to seeing you volunteering or joining our PTO.
Sincerely,
NES Admin Team

Attendance Matters!
We are so excited to share the news that for two consecutive months, Northside Elementary received recognition at the county level for top student attendance! We are continually working to make our school environment a place where everyone feels safe, healthy, and ready to learn. We are partnering with Crumbl Cookie to highlight our students with good and perfect attendance at the end of the semester. Crumbl Cookie is providing a certificate for one cookie to be redeemed in the Newnan location at Ashley Park. Let's continue to work together to support student success.
What Can Families Do to Support Student Attendance?
Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school and themselves. Families can start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that students go to school on time, every day. Good attendance will help children do well in high school, college, and in their careers. Here are some suggestions:
Build regular routines for bedtime and the morning,
Set out clothes and pack backpacks the night before,
Pack lunches the night before,
If there is a reason that they aren't looking forward to school regularly, please reach out and let us know so we can address it,
Schedule family trips when school is not in session when possible,
Schedule medical appointments after dismissal if possible, and
Talk about the importance of regular attendance and about how your child feels about school. Regular attendance helps to make and build connections with friends and staff. It also supports learning!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Ms. Trahan, our attendance clerk, or Mrs. Addison, the principal at the school at 770-254-2896.
The above families are our 2023-2024 Northside Partners. We greatly appreciate their donation, and we will use this funding to benefit all of our students in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to ensuring field trips for all students, student recognition programs, and other curriculum needs.. If you or someone you know would like to become a Northside Partner, please click HERE . If you have any specific questions, please contact Amy Addison, Northside's principal, at 770-254-2836 or by email, amy.addison@cowetaschools.net.
Thank you for being a part of such an exciting school year!

Keeping Our Students Safe at School is Our Top Priority
Northside has strong safety protocols in place, and our staff and students will practice these protocols throughout the year. It is important to remember that safety is a shared responsibility. We ask that all of our families and visitors adhere to our strict guidelines for safety when they visit our school to volunteer, attend conferences, or eat lunch. The only door that will be unlocked at the school is the front door going into the office. Once you enter the building, you will be asked to sign in using your ID. You will receive a Visitor's Badge, and then Mrs. Trahan will buzz you into the main building. When you are in the building, we ask that you go directly to the area where you are volunteering, having a meeting, or to the lunchroom. The only visitors who should go to a classroom are those who are scheduled to volunteer on that day. Finally, no visitors will be allowed to use our students' bathrooms. We have adult bathrooms for all staff and visitors.
We hope you understand the reasons for our strict procedures and will help us by adhering to them throughout the year. There is nothing more important to all of us than the safety of our precious children.
