Principal’s Message

Happy Veteran’s Day weekend, Vista High School!

First and foremost, we thank all of our family members and staff members who have served our country. We are truly grateful for your service!

This week is also School Psychologists week. Did you know that we have three amazing School Psychologists who work at Vista High School? We thank Ms. Reynoso-Garcia, Mr. Custodio, and Ms. Carroll for their wonderful support of our students.

Progress reports for grading period two have now been mailed home. We encourage you to talk with your student about the importance of grades. Now is the time to check in with them on their progress and encourage them to conference with their teachers, go to after school tutoring, and reach out when they need help. We are here to support them! Our semester will end with Finals Week December 18-20, when grades will be final.

Please join me next week at Coffee with the Principal on Wednesday, November 15th at 6:00 PM in the Library. We will be discussing what’s happening at Vista High School, as well as hearing from our local partners at TrueCare about support for student mental health. We look forward to seeing you there.

Have a wonderful three day weekend, Panthers, and thank you again to our Veterans.

In Peace,

Principal Ratliff

Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day - Nov. 14

VHS BSU is sponsoring this event and other forms of activism this year to bring an end to racism and all forms of bullying. We will join with students across the country who are continuing the movement to unify our communities.

Join us at 8am on November 14th in the front parking lot next to the guard shack wearing purple as we Walk to School.

At the tender age of six, Ruby Bridges advanced the cause of civil rights in November 1960 when she became the first African American student to integrate an elementary school in the South. Ruby’s birth year coincided with the US Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Brown v. the Board of Education of Topeka Kansas, which ended racial segregation in public schools.

Even though Ruby and five other students passed the entrance exams meant to inhibit desegregation, the school delayed her admittance until November 14. Ruby and her mother were escorted by four federal marshals to the school every day that year. She walked past crowds screaming vicious slurs at her.

A lifelong activist for racial equality, in 1999, Ruby established The Ruby Bridges Foundation to promote tolerance and create change through education. As part of that legacy, Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is an annual day of dialogue to commemorate her historic steps.

Character Counts - Everywhere and All the Time!

Hello Panther Families!

At Vista High School we have a Character Education program that focuses on the six pillars of character (learn more HERE). Each 6-week grading period, our school focuses on one of the six pillars. Our focus for this next grading period is CARING! We’d love to hear examples of caring from our Panther families to be highlighted in our staff and family newsletters. Click HERE to share your example.

¡Hola Familias Panteras!
