Success Story
Madison County will have two Lilly Scholarship winners. Below is the description of the scholarship.
Madison County's Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship shall be awarded to two students, who will be provided eight semesters of full tuition, required fees, and a special allocation of $900 per year for required books and required equipment for four years of undergraduate study.
Of the seven finalist in Madison County, four are PHHS seniors. Of those four, three were MRE students. Jayden Brown, Lauren McLaughlin, and Megan Green all walked our hallways for seven years. It is great to see them be so successful.

Valerie's Vision
We officially have 15 days until Winter Break. These next few weeks will be filled with testing, winter parties, programs, and the joy of the season. This is an incredibly busy time of year. When things are busy, we need to remember to take those small moments to relax, let go of stress, and take a deep breath. This week, I am giving you some 2-minute de-stressors. Because, let's face it, after about 2 minutes of peace and quiet, I'm pretty sure your brain will already be thinking about what still needs to get done.
- Breathe- take slow even breath in through your nose and out through your mouth. Make sure your exhale is longer than your inhale. This stimulates your whole body to calm down.
- Vent- talk to a co-worker or a friend about your frustrations, and then allow yourself to let them go. Stewing over problems doesn't solve them, it just makes you miserable.
- Laugh-find a funny joke, watch a quick video, or just force yourself to laugh at whatever situation you are in. You already know 100 years from now, what you are stressed about won't even matter.
- Meditate- there's plenty of '2 minute meditation' guides out there. Don't be afraid to try one out.
- Smile- studies have shown that smiling can temporarily alleviate small stressors and help you get past negative moods.
- Hold Something Warm- people have embodied cognition and make different decisions based on sensations they feel from objects. Holding a warm mug of coffee or tea may lift your spirits if you're feeling exhausted.
