Loss in Reverse
From Annelies & Conduit for Change, LLC
Loss is like a birth-- in reverse.
These are important, exciting and deeply difficult times. Although it's certainly not easy to see all of what we count on crumbling to unrecognizable heaps-- like birth, loss is truly a part a life. Everything and everyone has an exit ramp. It's called change. And with change comes a layered experience of grief.
Here's a quote from my book From Chaos to Calm Leading Change From the Inside Out on what I call Hidden Grief. May my words provide the permission to not know all the answers right now and to simply be present to the process.
- "Grief is a tangled mass. When the anchor of grief is tugged through change it brings up the entire ocean’s floor of our past emotions because everything is connected. Grief is not just one thing. It's a collection of losses touched by yet another loss. And to release it, we’ve got to be willing to let go of a host of stories we’re attached to. To visualize something new we must be willing to release what was. Human rights activist Simone George said from the TED stage, “Acceptance is knowing that grief is a raging river. And you have to get into it. Because when you do, it carries you to the next place. It eventually takes you to open land, somewhere where it will turn out OK in the end.” The deeper truth is... although it may seem counter-intuitive, but to be free, you must be willing to be greater than your fears, be willing to be vulnerable. When grief events are embraced, not pushed away or locked out, you can DO something wildly wonderful. You can transform, re-imagine and be free."
I've felt for decades that we move through portals of experiences that help us evolve, help us emerge as more conscious beings, more mindful leaders, more spirit-filled souls. This time is no different. We'll get through this chaos as our ancestors have emerged through portals of their time. It's ok to show up messy. It's ok to not know the answers. It's ok to be a cacophony of emotions. We're falling apart so that we can land together. We are birthing a new renaissance. Be a wise voice and listen from deep deep inside.
With that said, I invite you to join me on a grace-filled journey to explore grief. In some ways it may be about direct loss, like death itself and in other cases it may be about loss in the greater sense like our changing society and fears of the future. I'll provide the space to explore and you carry the voice.
So… what if we talked about death? Not in the morbid sense but in the common sense that maybe we'd all benefit from being vulnerable together. Death Cafe´s are designed to help you make the most of your (finite) life by increasing your awareness and comfort to talk openly about death. If anything, it's deeply important and can be thought-provoking, even comforting. Maybe it’ll be lively and freeing! Maybe it'll be quiet and calming. I promise... life will be more meaningful because you showed up to listen and share.
Join us for a Virtual DEATH CAFE´ and let's talk.
Our Cafe is on Thursday June 11th from 7-8PM.
Registration ends soon.
