The Buzz at Westbrook School
March 17, 2023
From the Principal...
Dear Westbrook Families,
We have had an exciting week at Westbrook School. Students took classroom yearbook photos, and we had an all-school assembly with Irish Dancing presented by the Hogan Irish Dance Company. Our Kindergarteners visited the music room for the first time on Monday and Wednesday for their in-school field trip. Next week, our kindergarteners will visit the Westbrook art room, and our first graders will have a field trip to Prairie Lakes Theater to see the theater production of Charlotte's Web.
We have one more full week of school before spring break (Monday, March 27th through Friday, March 31st.) Please note that there is NO school on Friday, April 7th. Have a great weekend!

STREP INFECTIONS ON THE RISE
IDPH and the CDC are observing an increase in strep throat -- specifically invasive group A streptococcus (iGAS) -- infections among children. Early recognition, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment of these diseases in children and adults is very important.
The following steps can prevent the spread of strep throat:
Wash your hands frequently with soap and water
Avoid sharing eating utensils with someone who is sick with strep throat
Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze
Stay home when you are sick
See the doctor when experiencing symptoms so you can be tested and treated
Symptoms of Strep:
- Sore throat that can start very quickly and cause severe pain when swallowing
- Fever
- Red and swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches or streaks of pus
- Tiny red spots on the roof of the mouth
- Swollen lymph nodes in the front of the neck
- Headache, nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.
