Linwood Elementary School
Principal's Message
Thank you all that came to Parent Teacher Conferences. It was a great opportunity to share what we have been working on in the classroom and also for teachers and parents to build relationships.
A friendly reminder to make sure your child comes to school with a jacket, hat and gloves as the weather is starting to cool off. Please bring a change of winter clothes for your child's backpack.
With Bulldog Pride,
Kathy McBride

Bulldog Pride
Teachers and Staff have been handing out individual Bulldog tickets to students if they see a student demonstrate positive behavior. This can be helping a classmate, assisting their teacher, having excellent manners in the hallways, etc.
Class tickets will also be given if a teacher or staff member feels the entire class has earned a Bulldog ticket.
Congratulations to Miss. Robard's 5th Grade class. They were the Top Dogs for the month of September and earned an Ice Cream Party earlier this month.
Congratulations to Dalan Barnett (3rd Grade) for being the individual Top Dog for September.
Counselor's Corner
Note from the Nurse

If your child is well enough to come to school, but still may require some OTC medications to maintain their comfort, please remember to follow these district guidelines.
ALL medications must be sent in the original container and must be appropriate dosage for your child's age and weight. All medications must be accompanied by a note from the parent/guardian and for prescription medication a note from the physician, containing the following information:
1) Date
2) Name of student
3) Name of medication
4) Dosage (amount, time of day, and number of days med is to be taken)
5) Reason for medication (ie., strep throat, ear infection)
6) Any special instructions or information that might be helpful
7) Signature of parent/guardian
Any changes in dosage, time or reason must be accompanied by a note from a parent/guardian.
Non-prescription medications will not be supplied by the school. Please note that throat lozenges/cough drops are considered medication and are subject to the above policies. This policy was developed with the safety of your child in mind. Please feel free to contact our school nurse if you have questions concerning this policy or have concerns regarding any student health-related issue.

Staff Spotlight
Mrs. Minks - School Social Worker
My name is Ashleigh Minks and I am a school social worker for the Basehor-Linwood school district. My husband and I recently moved to Lawrence, KS after spending the last 5 years in Wichita, KS. I currently live at home with my husband, Danny, and two rat terrier pups, Buddy and Annie. I enjoy working with students and I have loved my time working for USD 458!
Mr. Taylor- School Psychologist
Mrs. Mejia - Resource
My name is Megan Mejia, and I am a special education teacher here at LES. I was born and raised in Kansas City, KS and taught there for 12 years in various positions (third grade, second grade, kindergarten, and special education). This is my third year at Linwood Elementary, and I am passionate about my work and my students!
I have been married to my husband Ben for 13 years (officially on Halloween-my favorite holiday!), and I have 3 children of my own-Mila is 10, Benjamin is 8, and Leni is 3. I love being with my family and pets. When I do have spare time I enjoy painting, exercising, baking and reading. I feel extremely fortunate to be working alongside the teachers and families of Linwood Elementary and helping all students reach their goals!
Mrs. Nelson - Resource
I grew up in Kansas City, KS, where I began my teaching career. I taught elementary music and reading intervention for 8 years, and then my family moved to Nebraska for my husband's job. While there, I decided to take a break from teaching to stay home with our children. We moved to Basehor in 2019 and I decided that when our youngest was closer to kindergarten-age, I would go back to teaching. I am currently working on my masters degree in elementary and special education and will graduate in May 2023. I have five children: Jacob (11), Josie (10), Emma (8), Alex (6), and Nora (3). I have been married to my husband Kyle for 14 years. I spend most of my free-time hanging out with my family and taking my kids to various activities, practices, and games. However, when I do have a moment to myself I like to read, bake, and crochet.
