A Message From Our Principal

Dear Springfield Elementary School Families,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at "Meet the Teacher" and on the first day of school a couple of weeks ago! Our first day of school was filled with excitement and smiling faces as our students entered the building for the 18-19 school year. Our teachers and staff have enjoyed the first several days getting to know your children and discussing everyone's "hopes and dreams" for the school year!

The month of September is the time our students get into a routine and continue to build relationships with their teachers and friendships with new classmates. The PTA is also sponsoring their biggest fundraiser of the year with the Boosterthon program this month. The program will begin on Tuesday, September 18, with a pep rally for the students. This year's FunRun will be on Thursday, September 27. Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to helping provide a math program called DreamBox, a digital marquee, "One School, One Book", math manipulatives for classrooms, family events, and much more.

We look forward to a great year ahead! Please let your teacher or anyone on our administrative team know if you have a question or if we can be of assistance throughout the school year. We are happy to help!

Thank you for your continued support for your child's education and Springfield Elementary School! Have an enjoyable and safe Labor Day weekend!

Counselor's Corner

Big picture

Welcome back Colts!

Meet your new school counselors, Ms. Cahill and Mrs. Perrone. The Counseling Departments’ theme for September is “Skills for Learning.” We will begin classroom counseling lessons with a “Meet the Counselor” lesson where students will become more familiar with their counselors, the role of the counselor, and where to find us. Ms. Cahill will be teaching classroom counseling lessons to kindergarten, first, third, and fourth grades. Ms. Perrone will be teaching classroom counseling lessons to second and fifth grade.

We are excited to work with our students and faculty this school year!

Notes from the Nurse

Please remember to send in dental permission forms if you would like your child screened at school.

Also remember to send in your immunization records if you have not provided them. This would be for new enrolled students and kindergarten students. Immunizations must be on record by September 18 or your student will not be allowed to attend school on the 19th.

Media Messages:

Welcome back to READING!! So glad to have students back checking out books this year! Grades 1-5 will be allowed to get two books each library visit. Kindergarten students will be getting one book each week beginning mid September. Please remind your children to return the books so they can get ‘new’ ones! If you are interested in helping the library, we are always collecting 24 and 100 piece puzzles, starburst candy, new or used books, and any greeting cards (we turn them into bookmarks!) Many thanks ahead. Until next time, happy reading!

All students in grades 3-5 will be getting their Typing Agent Login information in the next few weeks. I will go over proper keyboarding procedures them. There is not time during technology to practice keyboarding. I encourage you to have your child practice at home. All testing and workplaces use computer devices and keyboarding is a valuable skill. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me. Our younger students will be practicing listening skills, mouse skills, and logging in to Google. We will progress to learning about the different programs to use in the Google Drive. Fifth Graders will also be learning about proper email etiquette.

Knitting Club: We will be starting a knitting club for fourth and fifth graders. The details are being worked out. If your child is interested please send me an email at cageaoa@fortmillschools.org and I will send home the details of the club when we have them.
