In the Classroom
Learning This Week
Reading- This week students will write about their reading. They will tell about their favorite part, their favorite character, describe a setting, or tell about the lesson learned. By the end of first grade, students should be able to describe characters, setting, major events, and central message using key details and illustrations.
Writing- This week students will review writing narrative stories about themselves. We will review important parts, such as including a beginning, middle, and end, an interesting sentence to begin, transition words, punctuation, and capitalization. By the end of first grade students should be able to write narrative stories with sequenced events, details, transitional words, and a closure.
Math- Students will continue exploring place value concepts, including comparing numbers. By the end of first grade, students should be able to read, write and represent 2-digit numbers as tens and ones.
Science- This week students are learning about 3 different types of energy- light, sound, and heat.
