READING IS SPOOKTACULAR!

Happy Fall Y'all!

During the month of October we will participate in the Buzzer Readers (formerly Jacket2Jacket) Reading Competition as well as the Stroybook Character Pumpkin Contest. Please ensure that you have sent home reading logs to your parents and that students are logging their reading each day. Remember, Ms. Perry promises a school wide cupcake and pizza party if we win! I am here to assist you with your literacy needs. Need assistance with MyOn, Accelerated Reader, ClassPass or materials to support lesson planning? Just send me a quick email @drrice@atlanta.k12.ga.us. Happy Reading!

Let's Win!

Buzzer Readers is an initiative to promote and encourage children to learn through reading. It is sponsored by the Georgia Tech Women's Basketball Team and runs from October 1st through October 31st! Students have the entire month (31 days) to read as many pages as they possibly can and record that information on a reading log that will be provided to them. Winners will be announced in the following categories:

  • Highest School Total (Elementary and Middle School)
  • Highest Class Total from Each Grade
  • Highest Individual Total (Elementary and Middle School)
  • Highest Individual from Each Grade
  • All Participants (in seat recognition)

All students who participate will receive tickets to a Georgia Tech Women's Basketball Game. If our school wins AGAIN, Ms. Perry promises a very special surprise for all participants AND a visit from the basketball team! Get ready, the competition ends October 31st!

SEL Book of the Month

Jacqueline Woodson is the 2018-2019 National Ambassador for Young People's Literature

A #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

National Book Award winner Jacqueline Woodson and two-time Pura Belpré Illustrator Award winner Rafael López have teamed up to create a poignant, yet heartening book about finding courage to connect, even when you feel scared and alone.

There will be times when you walk into a room
and no one there is quite like you.

There are many reasons to feel different. Maybe it's how you look or talk, or where you're from; maybe it's what you eat, or something just as random. It's not easy to take those first steps into a place where nobody really knows you yet, but somehow you do it.

Jacqueline Woodson's lyrical text and Rafael López's dazzling art reminds us that we all feel like outsiders sometimes-and how brave it is that we go forth anyway. And that sometimes, when we reach out and begin to share our stories, others will be happy to meet us halfway.
