A GREAT YEAR AT WEST!
Congratulations Parents and Students! Now that we have wrapped up a great school year I think it would be a good idea to stop and reflect on all the great things that happened this year! We have had so many amazing accomplishments from our students, our staff, and our parents. Some of our greatest student accomplishments this year include our Pennies for Patients efforts which result in FTMS West being recognized as the #1 middle school in the state of Indiana! West has achieved this recognition two years in a row. In addition to being the number one middle school in the state, FTMS West also had the #1 donations per capita school in the state, and was recognized as the #3 school in the entire state! Accomplishments like these speak to the heart and care of our students and their sense of responsibility for helping others. In addition to our students’ philanthropy we had many other outstanding accomplishments this year. The FTMS West robotics team was invited and competed in the Vex Robotics World Championship. Our music students received numerous gold medals during their ISSMA competitions this year. The 8th grade academic team completed their third undefeated regular season in a row. Throughout the year our student athletes competed with great sportsmanship, effort, and grit in every game. It was a great year for all the activities that make school a fun and exciting experience for our students.
Not only have the students at West excelled in the extra-curricular activities, they have also excelled in their academics. Everyday our students came to class ready to work hard and push themselves towards their personal improvement and success. Throughout the year each grade level improved their performance in their classroom by studying hard, working with the teachers, and doing their best every day. The success of our students can directly be related to the commitment and drive of our parents, students, and teachers. I am proud of the many great contributions by our parents. We thank every parent who committed time and effort to ensuing their students completed their homework, helped their students study for tests, and/or spent time volunteering at FTMS West. We know that parent’s lives can be extremely busy, especially raising a middle school student but, without your commitment your student would not have experienced their success this year. A special thanks goes to our PTO and their efforts this year. Each year the FTMS West PTO members put in so much time and effort to ensure our students have opportunities for fun and excitement. Not only are they committed to providing experiences for our students, they also spend a great deal of time supporting the hardworking teachers of West throughout the year. There are so many other events, people, and moments we could celebrate, and we are fortunate to have such a wonderful school family!
There is no doubt this year has been a great year at FTMS West! We hope that you and your family have a safe and fun summer. We can’t wait to see everyone back next year so that we can continue our drive towards excellence at FTMS West!
Sincerely,
Matt Vandermark
Principal

Attention Incoming 6th graders! West would like to invite you to a special event taking place during Flash Focus on July 19th. West Student Ambassadors will be present from 6-7 pm on July 19 to meet 6th graders and work with them on team building, a scavenger hunt, and other fun activities. Student Ambassadors play a key role in helping new 6th graders adjust to middle school, and we would love to help you get to know them and one another before school starts.
This special activity is for students only. Students and their parents are welcome to plan their visit around this event in the evening with plenty of opportunity to visit classrooms, pick up forms and handouts and practice with their locker as well.
