Celebrity of the Week - Mackenzie!

What are we Learning?

Reading - This week we will continue to focus on Folktale elements and characters in our fiction stories.

This is our last week for students to work on their AR goals for 2nd quarter. Many of our friends have already reached and passed their goals!

Phonics/Spelling - Unit 9: R-controlled vowels: er, ir, ur and dictionary skills

Trick Words (Unit 8): picture, learn, earth, father, brother, mother

Writing - Last week, students continued to write and give their opinions of their favorite books. This week, we will incorporate a few activities in which students will take a stance on an issue and write their opinion. We will also continue to write our opinions on our books emphasizing using text evidence and quotes from the text to support our thinking.

Math - We are doing a great job adding 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping! This week, we will start learning how to subtract 2-digit numbers with and without regrouping. This is a tricky skill for 2nd graders, so you may see some extra math homework over the next few weeks.

Helpful IXL topics are listed below!

IXL Topics - We will also work on these topics at school! :)

Subtraction - Two Digit

G.3 Subtract two-digit and one-digit with Regrouping

G.4 Subtract two-digit numbers without Regrouping

G.5 Subtract two-digit numbers with Regrouping

Science- As we continue our Matter unit, students will learn about changes that can occur in matter and classify these changes as physical or chemical. We hope to get in a few practical experiments to see how matter changes.
