Nuts and Bolts

Midterm window is now open and will CLOSE on Thursday, 2/2/17. Midterms will be posted online on Friday 2/3/17. Please be sure all grades are correctly posted before 3:00 on Thursday.


DIBELS parent reports will also go home on Friday, 2/3/17. We will print those off and put in your mailboxes.


FLU SEASON IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER: Please teach your students and model sneezing and coughing into your elbow. Use hand sanitizer and review hand washing with warm water for 30 seconds.


Field Trips: Please do not schedule field trips on Wednesdays. If you've already scheduled a Wednesday trip, it is fine. However, from this point forward the transportation department will not be able to honor those requests.


I'll begin classified staff evaluations in the next couple of weeks. These will be need to be completed by April 28th.


Shari Switzer, Curriculum Director, will be coming in to classrooms across the township to observe the entire 90 minute reading block. Don't be surprised if you see her.



Please be sure you are releasing your Car rider, YMCA, Walkers and Day care students at 3:48. We are having students trickle down late and cars are held up while we wait.

Please have your class lined up and ready to walk out the door at 3:50 when the bell rings for buses. We are working hard to get buses out of the lot as quickly as possible. The longer students have to sit on the bus waiting, the more chance of inappropriate interactions on the bus.

Curriculum and Instruction

TUESDAY, JANUARY 31ST DIBELS PD DURING GRADE LEVEL PREP TIME (NO STAFF MEETING) Please come straight to the conference room during your grade level prep time with your DIBELS data and analysis. We will review all data and create new reading lab groups. We will also want to talk about all three tiers of support to get our students to benchmark. Please have your data complete and ready to discuss.

We've put reports and booklets back in your mailboxes yesterday or as soon as we received your completed test booklets.



FTCSC DIBELS GOALS: Accuracy 85% and Fluency 80%

Ways to Respond to Independent Reading, Read with A Buddy, or Read Aloud Time~

2.) Character Differences: Talk about a character that is very different from you. Describe the differences between you and that character.

Two Voices: Bring it all together with books written for two voices. Find text that lends itself to partners taking turns reading. This allows students to practice reading with appropriate phrasing, punctuation, expression, and pace.

Reaching ALL Learners

Energizers and focusing activities foster positive mind-body states, leading to mind-sets of academic optimism and receptiveness to learning.

Combine Math with Movement: Pair students up and have them sit in their chairs facing their partners. If students are skip counting, they must touch the floor with their right hand and say, “Two!”, then touch the floor with their left hand and say, “Four!” and so on.

Older students can name prime numbers or even complete calculations while making physical movements. Students could do a cross lateral shoulder touch, name a number, then do a cross lateral knee touch and multiply the first number by a new number.

Athlete Mentors

I've created a Google Sheet with dates and classrooms for student athlete mentors to visit. Please review the dates and find yours. They are listed below and are in a folder in Google Drive for you. If you have any concerns with the date assigned, please let me know. The agenda and schedule that the athletes are given is below.

Technology

March 7th K-2 Teachers will get their replacement ipads.

These will be full size and not the mini ipads.
