Announcements:
Thursday will be our Gebhardt Math Fair. It will begin at 1:00 in the Gebhardt Gym. Parents are welcome to attend!
On Friday, the 5th graders will be watching a performance by David Blake, a folksinger who will be singing songs from across the history of the U.S.A.
Reader's Workshop
This week we will be studying:
* 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person point of views
* author's word choice
* narrative structure of stories
* author's character development
* symbolism
Writer's Workshop
This week we will be continuing our Persuasive text writing project. We will be writing our conclusion paragraph, writing our persuasive paragraphs, focusing on our word choice, and writing/typing our final drafts.
The students are really working hard on this writing project!
Word Study
This week we will be studying how suffixes can change a noun into an adjective.
We will be studying the suffixes -ic, -ian, and -al. All of these suffixes mean "to relate to".
Some of the words we will be studying:
poetic, allergic, hectic, hysterical, virtual, mythological, ruffian, technician, mathematician
Math
This week all 5th grade students will be presenting their Math Fair projects in class on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. This will allow them time to modify their projects before the Gebhardt Math Fair on Thursday afternoon.
