Week of February 8, 2019
Another Snow Day!
We had another snow day this week to enjoy with your children at home. This made for another quiet day in the office for me to catch up on work and get some things done ahead of time!
We have BINGO Night TONIGHT at Morgan from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. Tickets were available for advance purchase prior to tonight. There are a few tickets still available at a $7 per ticket cost at the door. Some of our Morgan teachers will be on hand tonight to call BINGO numbers. Hope to see you there!
Our 4th graders will have their NAEP testing session on Monday, February 11, which is a make up date from our previously scheduled testing date.
NWEA testing was completed this week, with just a handful of students needing to complete make up testing from the snow days and absences. Please check with your child's teacher to receive a report on your child's NWEA progress from fall to winter.
Next week will bring the excitement of Valentine's Day. Check with your child's teacher as to if/when Valentine activities may be occurring and if parent volunteers are required. Not all classrooms are participating in large activities, but may be recognizing the holiday in another way.
Have a great week!

Report Cards
Only parents with an established PowerSchool account will receive a report card. It is very important to set up your PowerSchool Parent Portal to receive report cards each quarter throughout the school year. Once you set up the account, it will stay active throughout your child's years in UCS.
PowerSchool is also valuable to monitor student attendance (all grades) and student grades on assignments and tests (grades 3-6).

Recess--Inside or Outside?
20°F Recess is held outside
15-19°F Wind conditions will determine
14°F or Below: Inside Recess
“Weather Bug” for updates.
If temperatures are between 15° and 19°, the
wind chill factor will be considered.
It is important that children dress appropriately: boots, hats, gloves/mittens and a warm coat. All students are expected to participate in recess. Fresh air and physical play help develop fitness and increase children’s ability to focus during learning times. Generally, if a child is well enough to attend school, they are well enough to go outside for a short break and to get some fresh air.
Notes from Nurse Becky--UCS District Nurse
When Should Your Child Stay Home From School?
Protecting your child’s health and preventing the spread of illness to other students is one of our parental responsibilities. Please keep your child at home if you notice any of the following illnesses:
Contagious Diseases
Inform the school immediately if your child develops any of the following diseases: Chicken Pox, Hepatitis, Mumps, Strep Throat, Scarlet Fever,
Impetigo, Scabies, Lice, Flu, Pink Eye, Rheumatic Fever, Ringworm, Hard Measles, or German Measles
Elevated Temperature (Fever)
Your child should be fever free for a full 24 hours before returning to school. Example: If your child has a fever above 100 at 3 PM on Tuesday, they should not return to school until Thursday.
Vomiting and/or Diarrhea
Your child should be symptom free for a full 24 hours before returning to school. Example: If you child vomits at school at 10 AM on a Monday, they should not return to school until Wednesday, if the vomiting stopped.
Cold or Symptoms of Upper Respiratory Infection
Such as persistent cough, green nasal discharge, sore throat and
congestion.
Suspicious Skin Rashes or Suspicious Infections
We appreciate your support in this matter. If you should have any questions regarding your child and an illness, please do not hesitate to call the school.
Save the Date!--Kindergarten Round Up 2019
UCS Kindergarten Round Up 2019
(PLEASE--Parents Only)
UCS will be holding Kindergarten Round Up at ALL elementary schools on this evening. Parents should attend Round Up at their designated home elementary school. Registration must be turned in to the home attendance elementary school.
There will be a general presentation for all parents in the gymnasium starting at 7 PM, which will highlight Morgan elementary. This will be followed by two rotating sessions, one to complete, turn in registration paperwork and another to see a more in depth presentation of daily Kindergarten life at Morgan (presented by Morgan Elementary Kindergarten teachers).
To successfully register your student for Kindergarten you will need the following:
- completed UCS registration packet (which can be downloaded from www.uticak12.org)
- Driver's license or state of MI ID card
- Child's original birth certificate (copies not accepted). We will make a copy and return the original to you during this evening.
- Proof of residency in the Morgan attendance area: current Tax statement (winter 2019), closing papers from home sale or lease agreement. Again, copies of the originals will be made during the evening and the original documents returned to parents.
Prior to starting Kindergarten in the Fall of 2019, UCS requires these additional documents:
- current immunization records
- vision/hearing test results
Please share the date with friends and neighbors who have future Morgan Rockets at home, but do not have students presently enrolled at Morgan.
Morgan Lunch Monitors
Morgan continues to look for additional support during the lunch hour. While our building is allocated a certain amount of paid EduStaff lunch monitors, we can take additional support in the form of volunteers. Students really enjoying seeing their parent/grandparent/aunt/uncle at school during the lunch time helping in the lunchroom or walking around the playground with the kids.
If you are interested in becoming a paid lunch monitor, please click on link below to start an application with EduStaff. EduStaff certified lunch monitors are paid an hourly rate each day they work. EduStaff employees can also complete additional, free, online training sessions and become substitute paraprofessionals for additional paid hours of work.
Morgan also takes volunteers with a current background check on file. If you filled out a Volunteer Sheet within the past few years, you should be able to volunteer for field trips, classroom help and lunch supervision. If you are unsure about your volunteer status, please contact the Main Office and Sharon or Melissa can check for you: 586-797-5800.
If you are interested in volunteering during the lunch hour, which runs from 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM each day, please contact Melissa in the main office and let her know what days you are available to volunteer. Grandparents/aunts/uncles/neighbors are all welcome once we have a background check on file.
If you have any questions, please call Morgan at 586-797-5800 or email Mrs. Lasky at sue.lasky@uticak12.org.
