FRESHMAN ACADEMY INFO NIGHT AT CHUGIAK HIGH SCHOOL
Wednesday, February 21st at 6:00pm in the CHS Auditorium
The Anchorage School District is transforming the high school experience to better prepare students for College, Career, and Life. As part of this transformation, all 8 high schools in ASD will be implementing a comprehensive wall-to-wall career academy model, known as the Academies of Anchorage. Starting with the graduating class of 2028 (current 8th graders), all incoming freshmen will kick off their high school journey in a Freshman Academy, then move to a Career Academy in grades 10-12. The Freshman Academy experience is designed to promote a smooth transition from middle school to high school, support academic success, and help students explore career pathways. For more details about Freshman Academy and the Career Academy model, come join us for Academy Info Night on February 21st at 6:00pm.

ADVANCED PLACEMENT UPDATES
For the 24/25 school year ASD will be offering AP Seminar in place of Honors English II. At Chugiak please note this is not a part of our World Discovery Seminar Program, but will take the place of students who want to take Honors English II. AP Seminar is an interdisciplinary course that encourages students to demonstrate critical thinking, collaboration, and academic research skills on topics of the student’s choosing. To accommodate the wide range of student topics, typical college course equivalents include interdisciplinary or general elective courses. For more descriptions and information on AP Seminar please visit The College board page here.
ASD will also be offering AP Precalculus in place of Precalculus with Trigonometry.
Regardless of where you begin your high school math journey, AP Precalculus is designed for every student who’s ready to take precalculus in high school. Taking AP Precalculus prepares you for other college-level mathematics and science courses. During the course, you’ll explore everyday situations using mathematical tools and lenses. You’ll also develop an understanding of modeling and functions, and examine scenarios through multiple representations. The course framework outlines content and skills needed for careers in mathematics, physics, biology, health science, social science, and data science. For more descriptions and information on AP Precalculus please visit The College board page here.
