Message from the Principal
It was so exciting to see all of our students on October 30th! I would like to thank our classified staff as well as our teachers for making the Materials Distribution/Drive Through Parade possible! We hope your students are enjoying their new books and materials, hopefully it has helped them be a little more organized with their home classrooms!
I will be out during the week of November 16-20th, as my 12-year-old daughter, Gigi, is having back surgery for scoliosis. Feel free to email me as I will be able to check email while at the hospital. You can always call the school office with questions and concerns, and Dr. Vicki Zands & Vice-Principal Veronica Vasquez from Cook will be the administrators on call.
We have Thanksgiving Break the week of November 23-27th. I hope you enjoy your week off with your family, even if we can't gather as we wish we could.
Our District has started talking (again) about a Return to School Plan. It is our hope that once our County lands in the red tier (and stays that way for two weeks), we could begin to open our schools. Right now, it is very important that we know what you would choose for your child if given the option to return. If you have not already done so, please go into your Illuminate Parent Portal. You should see a notification under "surveys". Please fill that out as soon as possible. https://srcs.illuminatehc.com/login
If you cannot access your parent portal, please call the office so that our staff can input your decision (Distance Learning or Social Distanced In Person). This will give us important information in order to plan ahead. It is my absolute hope that we can start having our students back at school!
We are starting to explore seeing some groups of students in small groups of ten. Our Restorative Specialist, Jordan Jacobs, along with our Library Tech, Iris Calderon, will start to see a Boys Club and Girls Club on Wednesdays. We will be getting in touch with students who will be invited to participate. We also hope to set up a cohort for students who are home alone.
Congratulations to Maestra Palacios and her husband! They welcomed baby Elijah on Saturday, November 7th! We have a baby boom of boys at CCLA! Ms. Nicole (back from her Maternity Leave) welcomed Sawyer in July. Maestra Tevaseu (K), is expecting in January (boy!).

Nuts & Bolts
Help Needed:
About 20 students were unable to come on 10/30 (or after) because their parents work during the day. We are looking for a parent who could assist us in dropping these materials at student's houses (if parents give us permission to share addresses). Please let us know if you would be willing to drop off student materials.
Classlink: Our District IT department is slowly adding all of our educational apps to Classlink. I know there was some confusion last week because they added Dreambox. Please encourage your child to log into all of their apps via Classlink. We still need to get Reflex Math and Brain Pop added, along with some others. Please bookmark Classlink for your child so that they have an easier time locating it. It should keep their login & password saved!
http://launchpad.classlink.com/srcschools
I-Station: This is a new, online adaptive supplemental reading program that will help students with reading. The program recommends 30-40 minutes of work per week. Each month, the students are automatically given a new placement test to measure growth.
That is why it is SUPER important that parents DO NOT help their child with this monthly assessment. It is a screener that informs instruction as well as provide content for what your child needs help within the areas of literacy.
You can monitor your child's Istation usage and level. First, ask your child's teacher for their Istation Log In & Password.
Then, log in to the Istation Parent Portal: https://secure.istation.com/HelpV2/uwh#/118773-istation-overview/parent-portal-walkthrough
What does I-Station provide for students?
It works with students at their own level in the areas of reading in Spanish (Tk-6th grade) and English (3rd-6th grade) including:
- Book and Print Awareness
- Listening Comprehension
- Phonological Awareness
- Writing Conventions
- Syllabic and Phonemic Awareness
- Letter Writing and Spelling
- Vocabulary Development
- Word Analysis
- Reading Comprehension
- Making Connections Across Text
- Text Fluency
- Genre study

Foundation Corner
Thank you for making our Zumbathon a huge success! Our school raised $18,855. Thank you for supporting our school, all the money our foundation raises goes directly to CCLA. We are so excited to announce that each grade level raised over $1,000, therefore, every CCLA student will receive an ice cream from our drive-thru ice cream party to celebrate. The drive-thru ice cream party will be on Dec 2nd. There will be more information given as we get closer to the event.
We would like to give a special thank you to CCLA parent Tracy Avila. Tracy donated the $100 gift card to our Zumbathon raffle prize and CCLA parent Mark Ford recorded our zumba instructors. Mark owns California Photography Company and he is available for photography or videography at your next event. We would also like to thank community member, Ignacio Alvarez at Joyeria Maria for donating the Chromebook and SRCS board member, Omar Medina who purchased the 65'' TV. Thank you for your generosity and supporting CCLA.
